wasn't as bad!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/23/10
We had read the reviews and quite frankly were a bit nervous about what we would find.. In essence..the location is perfect.as most hotels on block island ..it has Character..don't expect an island Resort..the rooms are small..but clean..there are absolutely no luxuries..the first set of steps are crooked..the second narrow..the staff accommodating.Breakfast ..typical..Major draw back ..no A/C.just table top fans.Gage your agenda on the island..with all there is to do..for the price,location..it's not so bad..as they say when in Rome...

We love the Harborside Inn on Block Island!!
By Skye, 4/20/10
We have been staying at the Harborside Inn for some time now. We just reserved our stay for the upcoming summer. We love the clean rooms and great location! It's right accross from the Old Harbor ferry landing. You can walk to the beach in less than five minutes. They have great food on the deck overlooking the water.. The staff is super friendly..The rooms are priced right compared to other places on the island with private bathrooms. We hightly reccommend this place! Can't wait for our 2010 visit..

Rude Managers
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/14/10
Block Island Reservations representing the Harborside Inn charged me $300+ for inquiring about a room! Then called me twice by cell phone while I was trying to have a romantic stay on the island with my husband asking me when we were going to show up. I kept explaining that we didn't book with them but they charged my credit card anyway! Their claim is that I held the room within two days of coming. I merely inquired about a vacancy after the Bellview accidentally double booked us. I checked out the Harborside while on the island and the place is right down town in the nosiest area. Even barring the rude behavior of the managersI would not recommend it if you are looking to sleep or have a romantic time. Other reviews tell of cramped and dirty rooms.

I'm not 18 anymore...
By NH gal, 7/3/08
We stayed in the New Shoreham building which was on the next block and it was kind of gross. The building has charm but some serious renovations need to happen here! We had a room right above a cute little patio/deck...cute by day but by night it was a nightmare. People were out on the deck drinking and yelling until 2 am. We finally shut the window but it was so hot we could hardly sleep. The room itself was dingy and sirty. The bathrooms were FILTHY and the other guests threw their towels all over the floors and the toilet stalls were so small, you couldn't sit and close the door! It was a very strange experience and we would never stay there again.

Lopsided hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/2/07
Our stay was horrible. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everyone in the hotel practically. The wallpaper was falling off, the shower had only hot or cold...no warm. So you either froze or burned. The slant was so bad we had a hard time keeping our balance. We couldn't even touch the lamps without them falling apart. No phone, no cable t.v., no fans, no A/C. It was almost like camping. The only good thing I can say about the hotel was (at least)the sheets were clean.

THE Tourist TRAP.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/07
This is the ultimate tourist trap! Four-star hotel rates for service less than you receive at a rural one-lane highway Motel 6! This is the literal truth...if you need to stay on Block Island and the only two choices left are staying at the Harborside Inn or sleeping in your car...Sleep in your car! Our experience in a nutshell: moldy shower, rusty/moldy ceiling tiles in room, tv that only gets 1 station, NO bed linen service(for $250/night you get to make your own bed! Forget about asking for clean sheets/towels), our bedside lamp had no lightbulb!, I stepped on feces in the lobby bathroom as we were checking out! The management simply does not care about the health and well-being of their guests--let alone their comfort! Don't make our mistake. Don't stay here.

You Need to STAY AWAY!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/18/07
Unless you have no other choices, do not stay here. It was so horrible we attempted to leave after the first night and opt for sleeping on the floor of a friend's hotel room, but the management would not listen to our concerns and informed us we would simply lose our night's charge due to cancelling within the 6 day window. Mold in shower; rusted room ceiling tiles; bedside lamp without light bulb; no A/C; fatally-steep stairs with no elevator and no luggage assistance; no clock; only 1 tv station, but even this one is so fuzzy you get a headache; must retrieve ice from the bartender in restaurant; only the location is positive As I was checking out, I attempted to use the lobby restroom--a big mistake! I wound up with human feces on my shoes. The management obviously does not care! Their technique is to trap you once you've checked-in and certainly do not rely on repeat business. I wrote a very cordial letter of complaint upon returning home and have been met with only passive hostility. Please stay away! Don't Make our mistake.

Great location, that's about it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/13/07
The location was great but that is the only positive thing about the hotel. For 330.00 a night, we had a TV with no cable and a fan. THAT'S IT! No phone, not even a clock radio! Would not recommend to anyone with eldery quests or small children. Or even anyone with an illness. If you don't have a cell phone and have an emergency, you can't even call 911. I also had to take a cold shower one of the nights. I agree with the other comments about the crooked floors, windows that don't close right and the gross towels that I wouldn't even dry my dog off with. I will not be returning to this hotel next year.

would stay again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/14/07
The location of this inn is fantastic- can't get any better. It is a very short walk from the ferry and is close to all bars/restaurants. The food in the hotel was great. The room was definitely small but was cozy. If you are not looking for something elaborate, you will enjoy your stay. We are planning to go back in September when the rates are low.

would go again
By SusanL, 6/7/07
This is an inn type, bed, basic TV, clean ; not too much more ; no air conditioning, a fan and a space heater were in the room; if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in room, there won't be any complaints; the towels need to be replaced, aged and color worn out; the flooring is slanted as well as staircase due to the age of the building; it is a great location from the ferry and in the midst of town; we ate at the Mohegan Cafe (not at the inn), excellent food and service; the walls are thin; we had a couple fighting above us where we could hear every word; this is not the Hilton and Marriott and if you are looking for similar not here but good enough for a clean room and bath; staff are from out of country and hard to understand; Block Island is beautiful, restful ; it is not Wildwood etc ; but if you are looking for quaint, quiet and beautiful location, you won't be disappointed. The Islanders are very friendly and so will to talk to you.
