Good location of deteriorating hotel
By Flyer, 6/11/11
Great location and view of sound. Serious need of refreshingl--chairs with soiled and torn upholstery and arms, etc/ Shows how long it's been since a do-over. Something very wrong with housekeeping--long lines of people trying to check in and no rooms ready at checkin time (including for flight crew arriving at midnight). Glasses, coffee cups not replaced from dishwasher downstairs but 'cleaned" in the rooms (eeew). No newspapers, no plastic dirty laundry bags, some surly staff and then some nice staff. Shame it has been allowed to deteriorate both in service and looks. Cutting back on housekeeping staff has really affected the quality.

Some good stuff, some bad stuff
By bill b, 12/7/09
Good stuff - * Great location! * Can get room with view of Puget Sound (partially blocked by some buildings), many other hotels are fully blocked from Sound in Seattle. * Thru Travelocity it came with free parking & breakfast. * Rooms were nice, I like the frosted glass doors on bathroom & closet. *Comfortable beds & lots of pillows. * Free high speed wifi internet. * First 15 minutes on computer in business center is free. Bad stuff * Unbelievably slow elevators. We think only two of the four were working, then on Sunday one of those got stuck with door partway open so we were down to one. Plus they always make scary clunking sounds. * I've been trying for two days to get a hold of someone in lost & found to see if they found my cell phone, I'll just keep trying. * We were gone from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm on Saturday, but returned to find housekeeping had not serviced our room yet. * Housekeeping NEVER answers phone, it always goes to answering machine. I called about the room not being serviced & also several times to check for cell phone as they are also lost & found. * Rooms are very dark. There were 3 light switches in room, 1 controlled a ceiling light by door & the others did nothing. Even with the light by door plus all 3 lamps on, it was pretty dark.

Welcome to Seattle!
By Lady Liz, 9/9/08
This was my first trip to Seattle, and Red Lion on Fifth Avenue helped me fall in love with the city. Right in the heart of the downtown, it's close to galleries, shops and restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was cleaned thoroughly each day, and I loved the view from my 9th floor windows. A room service meal one evening was prompt and delicious. I would highly recommend Red Lion to anyone who's planning a trip to Seattle. The terry robes were a nice touch, as was the daily newspaper. One caveat, though: I was a member of an Elderhostel program that had many of its meals at the hotel. The food for large groups such as ours left something to be desired in the way of taste, variety and presentation.

Excellent stay for a convention
I stayed here while attending a convention at the Seattle convention center, and the location of the Red Lion to the hall was very convenient. It was also close to a number of good restaurants, plenty of shopping and tourist attractions. The price was a bit much for me staying by myself, but it was definitely worth it.

Worst place in Seattle
By Arnulfo, 7/28/08
July 2008 Staff was aloof and uncaring. They appear to have a "thing" going with Limo's over Taxi service. We were given an expensive Limo as opposed to a less expensive taxi. Never go back again! Also, they have a woman concierege with a horrible attitude

Perfect location !
By scott, 7/6/08
Stayed 6/30/08 - 7/05/08 This hotel is situated in the middle of all the shopping and eating places you want. Hotel staff is very friendly and the front desk clerks are great, any question they can answear. We had a room on the 18th floor and had a noise problem and they immeditaley moved us to another room. We ended up on the 16th floor with a beautiful view of Elliot Bay. Do not stay in room 1806 (rattling pipes). Do not be afraid to get out and take the buses. You can go anywhere for free or just a few bucks. If you want to eat at the Space Needle hurry up and make reservatons. They were a week out (for dinner)when we tried to make them. Will stay again.

Very disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/11/08
I stayed at the Red Lion on 5th in oct of 07. Although close to many locations, the staff was extremely unhelpful and rude. My complaints fell on deaf ears, and even my comment card was responded to with a form letter. I would not recommend staying here. Instead, try the W or the Westin. Both of those are lovely hotels in the same price range.

Will recommend friends to stay at this Hotel
By Citrawati, 1/11/06
The location is proper, where it is near togo anywhere (specially for shopping. At the beginning, we got the small room at the corner side room but then after asked the reception to move in the bigger room, she changed our room to the bigger one with a great view. I will recommend my relatives/friends/family to stay at this Hotel when they are visit Seattle. Anyway,at the time i checked-in,i forgotten to tell the reception that iam the member of Worldperks. When iam home, i did e-mail the Hotel to transfer my stay (2 days) to WorldPerks (so i can earn/add the mileages of NWA), but unfortunatelly up till now i have not received any response.

Fantastic!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/13/05
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Red Lion on 5th in March of 2003. We were charmed by the décor and the very helpful staff. The room was clean with a view of City Centre. It was also large enough to accomodate about a week's worth of mess and souvenirs. There are two possible exits, one towards the City Centre and one towards Pike Place Market. The market is less than 10 mins walk, and the airport shuttle stops right around the corner. The upscale stores such as Nordstrom's, Tiffany & Co. etc were less than a 5 minute walk.
