HJ Express Inn Naval Station San Diego National City, National City

My husband was attending school in San Diego on 32nd street for the Navy. We chose this hotel because they gave us the discounted rate of 50.00 a night since our stay was so long. I paid two weeks in advance paying a total of 700.00 and made sure it would be that same price if I needed to extend my stay. My husband and I extended another week which ended up costing almost 400.00 for the week...fifty dollars more than what we paid before. Then had to extend ONE more day and paid 66.99 for that night. So not only were we LIED to about price, we felt TRICKED into this. This isn't the ONLY problem we had, during our stay we never received our soap, shampoo, coffee, new cups, any of the hotel amenities that are included. I use to work for housekeeping at a hotel and know that you are so suppose to REPLACE the things everyday and CLEAN the BATHROOM floor...The sheets were cleaned though... As far as the breakfast I wouldn't expect much,BUT when you put out a container for hot food, people would expect something to be in there. There is a machine for APPLE JUICE and the whole time I was here there was NO APPLE juice. By far the most expensive hotel for the cheapest experience. I have stayed in CHEAPER AND MORE EXPENSIVE HOTELS being someone that travels alot, by far the worst experience I have ever had. The only reason we didnt switch hotels is because we didnt want to have to move everything. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone..Quite frankly I would tell them to stay far away...

Both of our rooms had tons of roaches. One of our rooms didn't have a working lock on the door, and on the second morning around 6am one of the hotel staff entered that room without knocking. Service is terrible. We tried to speak with a manager about the roach situation and we were continuously told that he wasn't available.

An employee walked in our room in the morning while we were sleeping and did not even apologize!! They have roaches...The "Rise and Dine" breakfast consist of first come first serve(they do not refill)danish and juice and that is it!! And the manager was helpless!!Will not return!!

This Howard Johnson is clean and convenient to the freeway. If you want a basic stopover, this is fine. If you are looking for a place to visit San Diego from, try elsewhere. This place advertises a pool (tiny) and breakfast (donuts, and the lady at the desk had to persuaded to bring them out). The reality did not match what they advertised. I would not stay here again.

The rooms were small and smelly. when I specifically asked for a non smoking, I was still given a smoking room. When I asked if I can be switched I was told thats all they had. The clerk was very rude. I asked for a refund that I can find some other hotel with a nonsmoking room I was told I signed the registration card that said in fine prints no refunds. I don't know why people don't realize they are in a customer service business. I will never go back to this place.

this hotel was the greatest ever it had a good price the service was great over all if we ever go to san diego again we will definetly stay there!

I think that we must have gotten the worst room in the hotel. I am not sure if this was because we did not pay for our room.

Not only was it under construction and renovations, it was in the middle of the Barrio, and we felt like a target from the moment we arrived. We knew we would not be able to leave our computer or any other valuables in the room during our absence. We did not stay there.
