Last cleaned during the Nixon administration
By ,
This is by far the filthiest most dilapidated place I have ever seen. It was poorly lit at night. I did not feel safe at all. The water park looked like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Rickety rusty slimy equipment. The restaurant closed at 8PM and there is NO place to get anything for 27 miles. Not even milk. just stale candy bars. The A/C didn't work, the water was never warm and the plumbing had disgusting stains on it. Don't go here for any reason. No redeeming features whatsoever. I deeply regret renting it on line before seeing it. Had I seen it first, I would never have stayed.

HORRIBLE PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!
By ,
What did I like????? Well it is close to the Caverns and that is it!!!! The room was dirty and smelled, there was hair in the bed and it was not ours, the heater did not work well and was cold all night then in the morning all we could get was luke warm water. Travelers watch out!!!!! I am not a picky person and have stayed in a lot of hotels but this is one of the worst for the price. Stay in Carlesbad!!

WARNING! DANGER! STAY AWAY!!!
By ,
Terrible experience and Ripped off! Arrived too late for the cave and stopped here to stay the night. They were all to happy to take my money and send me off to a room in a hotel that was across the street. This hotel (across the street) looked abandoned and as we entered our room, it was freezing cold (about 20-30 deg). We turned on the heat to find out it was barely working and not producing any heat (I think just the fan was running). Then we discovered the there was no water either! We notified them and they remarked that THEY ALREADY KNEW this!!!! I would have been nice of them to disclose this before renting us the room. We ended up leaving and they refused to refund our money saying that they don't have to refund for "inconveniences" such as no heat and no running water. We ended up driving into town for a hotel with heat and running water.

If you're visiting the Caverns
By ,
Closest to the Caverns. Good for the price. Quaint. Don't think there's much better in city of Carlsbad. Best bet is visit Caverns early as possible, eat there, see the Bat flight and stay at White's City that 1 night only. The place shuts down before you can reasonably get back from the bat flight (no food).

Won't go back
By ,
First room water would not shut off in bath tub. They sent maintenance who said yep water won't shut off, and moved us to the room next door. Off to the Bat Flight with 7 year old grandson. Returned after the bat flight to find A/C didn't work and this tub would not drain. Here's the maintenance man again with his plunger, yep drains slow, no tub stopper and the A/C does not work. 1015PM we were off to a third room with a wide awake grandson after the desk clerk checked the room BEFORE moving us. Staff was helpful saying the new owner just bought and was trying to fix things. The ONLY plus is it's close to the cavern. For $100 a night stay in Carlsbad and drive the 20 additional miles, you'll get a room for half the price and breakfast too! A tip for the owner, check all the rooms and close those that need any repairs - your "resorts" reputations sinking fast.

Excellent Stay, Close to Caverns
By ,
The resort was sold by the White family to the new owners early in 2009. They have done a fine job of turning the place around. Ok, it isn't a five star facility, but the rooms are big and clean. Beds are comfortable and linen clean. There is a small waterpark on the premises and the water was clean - we loved it. It was only a few minutes form the Carlsbad Caverns and made it very convenient for this purpose. The next hotel is 27 miles away in town of Carlsbad, The restaurant food was good and the service was fine. I would recommend this motel to anyone who can accept the fact they will compromise on quality when in the middle of nowhere. My family gives it a thumbs up.

Best Western Should Yank Franchise
By ,
This was nasty. I can't believe it has Best Western Franchise. They should really pay a surprise visit. The Rooms smellled of mildew. there was visable mildew on the bathroom ceiling Rm 179 & 180. The listing shows a hot tub and pool. The hot tub contained about 18 inches of slimy green water. Although a child was in it, no member of my family would be going in because of the potential for disease. It was pretty sickening. I guess I can understand BW wanting a piece of the action so close to the Caverns, but they really should inspect it once in a while. Also Wireless Internet never worked even though I called the front desk and after being on hold 5 minutes 3 times they said they would reset it (Still didn't work). If you are looking for an outdated motel close to the caverns try it. Karcher Caverns in Arizona is a living cave and prettier anyway. I have been to Carlsbad 3 times in 30 years and every time the cave (Although LARGE) is more gray and more dead looking.

Awful experience
By ,
1. A/C barely worked and totally quit last night we stayed. Service person (one from America's most wanted) we will be watching. Came a beat some thing around and said it will take the night to cool the room down. 2. The bathroom was dirty the beds were the worst I've slept on in many years. 3. Water in tub went from cold to scalding hot in seconds and without making adjustments. 4. People working at this hotel were some of the worst examples of service persons you'll come across. They may received their personable training from one of the caves "stalagmites" or the same place I received my spelling lessons from. Either way do not expect a great deal of service if you choose this hotel. 5. We ate at the Velvet Garder the first night and attempted to use the men's room. I stess the attempted part. When the staff was notified of the "mess" there was no attention given. I would recommend a hotel in the nearby city of Carlsbad it's self and hope you have a better visit to this great national park. This was our second Best Western hotel in one week and I can assure you our last ever! I think the Best should be removed from the title of these hotels.

DO NOT STAY HERE!
By ,
The only good thing is if you want to be close to the Caverns. The breakfast was a rip-off and NOT a FULL one, as advertised, false. The bedding and towels smelled dirty. It was loud talking outside our room by employees, all night. There are only about 8 channels. The convenience store, was anything but. The whirlpool tub didn't work and the knob broke off. TERRIBLE hotel. Stay in Carlsbad, it's worth the drive.
