Never Again
My family and I would book 3 rooms every year. In May 2008 we went up for a wedding. We get there and they tell us they have no rooms. They said one of us could stay and the other two would be sent to Howard Johnsons. They said we could all go to HoJo's and they would pick up the tab. We were there for 4 days. First they refused to pay the 4 days when the bill came. Then they agreed for two rooms. They refused to pay for the third because they said she had a room. We could not keep driving from So. Portland to Scarborough constantly especially with the price of gas. The female manager was very nasty. After I asked for her supervisor she nastily agreed to pay for all rooms.
I found out that they had given our rooms to another wedding party and construction workers. We had called a few days before to confirm and spoke to the manager.
Because we had to go to another hotel last minute, we missed the rehearsal dinner. The wedding was in Scarborough and now we were further away in South Portland. I am disabled and we always book the suite so I could sleep on the couch. We had brough food with us. The HoJo did not have a stove to cook on. So we had to give away our food. Waste of money. We had to eat out for the 4 days. More money wasted.
My other sister was still on the road and had no idea she did not have a room. They told me she knew. I could not reach her on her cell phone. So she had to go there first and find out she had no room. She was traveling with her daughter and two young grandchildren. She had to squeeze in a room with two queen beds. We were all on top of each other for our stay. It ruined our stay. We were excited that our baby brother was getting married and all we did was run around.
The three of us were driving up to Maine from New Jersey. After 7 hours in the car we had to deal with the aggravation of no room. Plus me being disabled it was even worse.
When I returned home I wrote a letter to the corporate headquarters and the ESA in Maine. I did not get a response from any of them.
All the years we stayed there we never had a problem like that. The manager told me that if we would have paid for the rooms in advance that would have been a guarantee to get them. We were never told that on the phone when I made the reservations. I would have been happy to pay for the rooms in advance. It was just an excuse. Never before were we ever asked to pay in advance.
While I was arguing with the nasty manager, another woman was complaining that she was promised a room on a certain floor. They also gave that away. They gave the entire floor to the construction workers.
Now we have no where to stay this summer. We cannot stay there because we cannot be sure to have our rooms waiting for us when we got there.
It is disgusting how they treated us.
Do yourself a favor and do not stay there. It is not worth the aggravation.
