Romantic Weekend
By Catz, 10/05/09
This is the best hidden gem in North Alabama, without doubt...Last week my husband & I decided to celebrate our anniversary at Gorhams Bluff.....We were WOWED in every aspect of this weekend getaway. As we arrived at Gorhams Bluff we were mesmerized by the wonderful quaint cottages which led to the main Lodge. We entered the Lodge & again, could not believe the beauty before us. The ceiling to floor windows beckoned us out to the Veranda, that stretched across the backside of the lodge. The views of the Tennesee River was absolutely Breathtaking. Along the grounds were intimate sitting vignettes, scattered here and there , which was perfect for a quiet afternoon glass of wine. We had made our Dinner reservations for 7pm. We approached the Dining Room and again felt like we were walking into a 5 star(t) Restaurant. The tables were dressed with beautiful white linen tablecloths , adorned by simple candlelights. Wonderful, soft music in the background. Perfect recipe for "romance".... We had chosen the 4 Course Dinner. The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE... We have lived across the country, including California and New York, and we could say with confidence, This Chef is probably one of the best...I would highly recommend, that if you have not been to Gorhams Bluff ...You need to put it on your "places to go" list...ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.. Room for improvement
By Lila, 01/26/09
My parents, my brother and his family, and my husband and I decided to spend a few days after Christmas at Gorham's Bluff for some family time. The location is absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. Because they don't allow young children in the lodge we could not rent rooms there or have dinner there (my nephew is 18 months). We rented a house which was comfortable and suited our needs well, but didn't appear to have been swept recently -- we found dead bugs around the base boards and on the stairs. The setting is rural so there is nowhere for dinner near Gorham's Bluff. With the lodge dining room closed to my nephew, we cooked in our house both nights. At checkout there is an 18% service charge automatically added to the room/house bill. When we asked what this was for we were told that it covers service in the dining room, house cleaning and landscape upkeep. We requested that this charge be removed since we didn't use the dining room at all, housecleaning didn't come at all during our stay (and didn't appear to have swept prior to our arrival). Management didn't respond to our request in any way, but charged our cards the full price, plus 18% service. My husband and I are frequent travellers and I have never paid a service charge for general upkeep of grounds or basic cleaning when staying in a hotel or resort. I expect these costs to be covered in the price of my room. I would suggest that if Gorham's Bluff is unable to cover the costs of doing business they should raise their rates and cut out this hidden fee. It is frustrating to be charged for services not used. This left a very bad taste in our mouths and we all have vowed not to return -- which is too bad because the setting is lovely.

Sand Mountain Hospitality?
By JamesJ, 06/09/08
We stopped by for lunch Sunday. On inquiring whether the Inn served lunch, we were told that they did. However, the person that greeted us said that they could only offer a box lunch, and that it would be $50 for two lunches...then she asked, "How do you plan to pay for this?" The site is beautiful, but the people incredibly rude.

Can't wait to go back!
By Mary, 03/22/07
The view was incredible. We had a private balcony with a view of the river that was breath taking. Breakfast and dinner were served by the fireplace in an elegant dining room. Each meal was a gourmet's delight. If you are seeking a peaceful getaway where you will be pampered and waited on hand and foot, this is it. This is our new anniversary tradition. We will return!

Returning this year!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/14/06
This is one of the most relaxing and pampering places I have stayed in the Bed and Breakfast world. The setting is an inn built on a bluff overlooking the Tennessee River and extensive woods. The rooms felt clean and new, but with very tasteful antiques and a warm inviting feeling, framed by a gas fireplace. Our room had a full porch with rocking chairs overlooking the bluff- with a view for miles and miles. Maybe our favorite part of the stay were the meals. Gourmet quality, but the least bit pretentious. There are multiple rooms- we are returning with a group of couples for another great time together, warm and well fed.

Take time to unwind.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/26/05
If you're ready to completely unwind and let your mind find a place of solitude and relaxation, a place to forget your worries and the headline news in beautiful surroundings, Gorham's Bluff is your place. A mansion type bed & breakfast atop a bluff overlooks the Tennessee River and surrounding mountain tops. No TVs or phones in the six room establishment means you are away from today's everyday hussle and bussle. Fireplaces in every room mean you'll feel right at home and even a little pampered.
