CONS
-This is the most important con. The pull-out beds were terrible and misrepresented on their website. There were no feather toppers in any of the three bedrooms that we rented. In fact, we had to buy a blow up air mattress for one of the rooms because it was more comfortable than the shabby pull out couch mattress. DO NOT get a studio room for this reason. Sleeping on the floor would be more comfortable.
-This con is almost as bad. The fire alarm went off three times in the two weeks (all after 8 pm). All of the rooms are connected to the same system, so if someone on another floor even burns toast, the system in the entire facility will go off and the elevators will be closed until cleared by the fire department (which takes 20-30 minutes).
-Amy, the front desk manager, is not a people person. She does not volunteer any information. For instance, you can only get wi-fi in the front desk area. If you want internet in your room, you need a CAT-5 cable. We called the front desk and inquired about the internet and Amy never told us that we could check out a CAT-5 cable for FREE. Instead, we went into town and bought one because she didn’t inform us that we could simply check out a cable. Then, the CAT-5 internet went down. I called the front desk and Amy answered. Instead of apologizing, she just curtly said, “Yes, I know, I’m working on it.” Then she left (without communicating anything to us) and the entire lodge didn’t get internet until the next day. Another time the internet went out, I called the front desk and no one answered. So, if you plan on staying here, don’t count on working internet or anyone answering the phone. And seriously, CAT-5??? Last time I checked, it’s 2011. The lodge needs wireless for the entire building- it can’t be that expensive to put in a few wireless routers. Also, Amy failed to tell us that we could buy laundry detergent for the machines so we went into town and bought laundry detergent.
-As another hit on Amy but may not apply to normal customers, we were not informed that as time share customers, we would have to pay for breakfast, room service on a daily basis, and shuttle services. Amy should have informed us up front that we would have to pay for these services. Instead, she embarrassed us in front of other lodge inhabitants at breakfast time. I wouldn’t normally mind paying for these services. We could have easily afforded it. However, I am bothered that we weren’t informed up front when we checked in with our credit card. Therefore, on the basis of principle, we did not pay for these services. The lodge could simply email or print these stipulations and provide them to timeshare holders so we know that to expect beforehand.
-The hot tubs broke often. And the heated pool? Forget it. Amy told us that it got shut down because it was too expensive to run. This may be an indication that this facility is in financial dire straights.
-The ski shop in this facility was terrible. My cousin, who stayed in another room, rented skis and got professionally fitted by the ski shop employee. Her boots were too tight but he claimed that they should fit really tight. She ended up missing out on skiing because her toenails turned black and her feet were swollen due to her poor fitting boots. I DO NOT recommend renting from this shop.
It was apparent to us that there was an acute breakdown in communication flow from management to customers. It’s really sad because the lodge is beautiful. It’s a shame that our experience wasn’t. To quote my husband who screamed into my ear at 3:30 am over the sounding fire alarm: “This place has some serious problems.”
