Bel Air Collection Xpu Ha Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen Centro

We visited with our 2 year old daughter and thoroughly enjoyed the place. The staff is very kid-friendly, and we even arranged for a babysitter for an evening "out" (we actually just stayed on the resort). The "eco-park" is basically a zoo, but perfect for little ones to see birds, monkeys, and crocs. Food was good and plentiful, the accomodations were above average, and the beach was great.

We stayed at this resort Feb. '07. Our room had sticky floors, when we ordered a bottle of wine to be delivered to our rooms it was opened and half empty, there were mouse turds on the vanity, ants crawling on vanities, the jacuzzi in the bedroom was fine but the bathroom was VERY small, they never changed our sheets after we requested it, the food at the restaurant was poor to average and we ate many of our meals at Aventura or club Talum, the beach was extremely small. The employees, I must say, were very friendly, in paticular Lucy, the waitress at the pool.The front desk was unreasonable about an extra charge on our bill at check out.Watch out. I am not a fussy traveler. Still,I would never recommend a stay at this resort. There are much nicer places on this strip. We have traveled to Spain, the Bahamas, Bermuda,taken cruises to the Caribbean, and seen much of the U.S.including Hawaii. This trip I will not recommend or do again.

I am not sure how this place has received excellent reviews. They must have been paid to say nice things. I am very upset because half the place is closed. Everything described on the website is inaccurate. The beach isn't even open. The eco trails are closed and the snorkeling lagoon is closed. There is only one dining hall that is open. One side is Mexican and one side is Italian. The gym is closed. There are no bars except for the one in the main lobby. The pools are empty. Everyone goes to the pools at the other properties cause there is no bar or grill or people at the pool. There is no nightly entertainment. If you want to do any of these things you have to get bussed to Club Maeva. They fail to say this when you are purchasing your vacation. When I asked the hotel staff why we they on't have what they say they just answered by saying "We do but you have to go to Club Maeva to do them." The staff is nice, but the grounds are empty. It was a very upsetting experience. I was so excited to stay at the XPU-HA. I paid such a premium price and nothing that was advertised was delivered. My husband made the best of the trip and did things on our own. The only excursion we were able to book was to Paradise Snorkel and we declined. You spend the whole day there and get only 20 min. of snorkeling. XPU Ha is supposed to have snorkeling already. So, we decided to ride a collectivo for 1.50 and spend the day at Playa. It was really cheap to do the excursions ourselves. I recommend that you save your money and stay elsewhere. Also, call the hotel ahead of time and ask for a list of the excursions and the days they are available. If you really want to go to Coba or another place make sure and plan your trip to coincide with their schedule or you will be planning the excursion on your own. I have stayed a the Moon Palace before and this trip wasn't remotely close to the amenities I experienced there.

Went for my brother's wedding and it was so fantastic, couldn't have asked for any better. Setting was just out of this world. Gorgeous beach aqnd whole resort. Loved all the animals. Service was unbelievable, couldn't ask for any more. Very much recommended! Loved the bath and room service, towels made into animals each morning.

This hotel is Survior with a five star hotel in the middle of it. You will enjoy the best of both worlds.

This resort is the BEST! The food was wonderful, the staff was super. The beach here is the best in the area.

Xpu-Ha is a great family resort. Not only do they have a beautiful beach, but there are numerous animals for the kids to enjoy on a daily basis. The thatched roofs of the rooms give it a real Mexican feel.

Our Honeymoon in Xpu-Ha Palace what a great time we had... Between the beach and the jungle, our hotel was actually an "eco-friendly" natural park. About an hour from Cancun, we were far from the mad tourist life-style. Surrounded by wild animals and the mangrove jungle we were also very near the Mayan Temples. Our "cottage" was designed as a typical mexican hut but with double jacuzzi and a terrace - 5 stars hotel service with the smile. We went diving, snorkelling, swimming with the dolphins and geant turtles. It was amasing and we would definitly recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet, stress-free holiday with good food, sun and non-stop tequila !! The all-inclusive is great with all drinks free anytime.

My husband and I had visited another Palace resort and took a day trip that included half a day at Xpu-Ha. We were so impressed we went back with the family 6 months later. We rented a car thinking we could go on excursions but ended up never leaving the resort. A typical day was strolling down to the open air restaurant for breakfast, then staking out our chairs on the beach. A little beach volleyball and/or soccer, perhaps a little floating on the gentle waves, then a 2 minute-walk to lunch. More of the same after lunch, maybe with a nap. If you got thirsty roving waitstaff would bring you a drink if you were too exhausted to walk the 100 feet to the nearest bar. ;-) In the evening we'd walk to one of the other restaurants. Secluded enough that we let our 3 kids stay at casino night if they walked home together. We were lucky to have rooms right on the beach - I could see where one of the interior huts might not be as desireable. We've since stayed at another Riviera Maya resort which was ok, but when our kids say they want to go back to Mexico, this is where they're talking about!
