4 stars? Really?

There were three of us in the room.
Beautiful lobby, very nice bellhops and valet parking attendants ($32 per night), fabulous gym. Beds were comfy but they were two doubles, not queen size as we expected- a tight fit for two adults. AC was very cool and responsive to the thermostat.
Brick wall view, no upper floor lounge or viewing area, 17th floor is blocked off (that's where they have a "lounge" for the "executive level" but still no view of the city), no hot water in our room's shower, seriously bad in-room coffee maker and coffee, no complimentary beverages (or anything else for that matter) in the lobby area although they did have a bowl of apples on the checkin counter. Even Motel 6 has complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby! Hot tub was out of order the four days we were there, the small basement pool was OK but something was leaking water all over the floor- very slick and cold- and you had to walk through it to get into or out of the pool area. Our room door stuck against the jamb making it very hard to open (you had to lean against it) and it would not close without a vigorous pull. It was open when the bellhop brought us up to the room. Serious burglary risk if the maid had left it ajar or you didn't pull hard enough. There was no microwave, minibar, or fridge. There were no drawers in the bathroom- everything had to be moved around the sink for each person to shave, do their hair or brush teeth. Nowhere to hang towels either. Hair dryer was in a bag on a hook and weighed so much my wife had trouble holding it up to dry her hair. No vent in the bathroom so it steamed up so bad you had to open the door and wait for the condensation to clear the air before you could dry the mirror with the hair dryer. There was only one straightback chair in the room. No place to sit and watch TV but on the bed. The TV was an old 19 inch tube type- you kind of expect something a little more updated in a supposedly renovated 4 star hotel. We knew more about New Orleans than the concierge. The manager eventually found out about these issues when she overheard my wife state she wouldn't be coming back to this hotel. On our last morning, she was reporting the lack of hot water for the fourth time (the front desk person, Scott, showed no interest at all in hearing our complaints or doing anything about them) and moved us to a new room on the last day just so we could take a hot shower. This second room had everything that was missing in the first- chairs, drawers in the bathroom, a view, a working door, a refrigerator. She also comped the valet parking from 1100 to 1500 so we didn't have to pay another $10 just to leave our car there since our flight didn't leave until 1700. We paid $80 a night after a bid on priceline (maybe that explains the crummy room assignment) but found we could have stayed at the Hilton Riverside for $75 with military discount. A MUCH nicer and better located hotel. Wouldn't entertain staying here again. You can't convince me it's worth 4 stars when compared to the competition- even other Hiltons in New Orleans. At $165, the regular rate, it's definitely not worth the money. I'd rather have stayed at the La Quinta for $85 and had a fridge, coffee worth drinking, a microwave and complimentary breakfast for the $5 difference. If you do find yourself here, get an upper floor room 'cause 203 is worthless.
