Hotel Splendide Royal, Rome

The attendants at the concierge we're uninformative and dishonest. My family booked a junior suite with an adjacent room only to have two of us placed on the 5th floor junior suite and two in a 4th floor regular double occupancy room. The junior suite had a horrible rotting stench coming from the vent and a broken toilet (it broke 5 times). We asked politely to move to another suite, and at first the concierge told us this would be possible. Upon requesting it again, another concierge told us this would be contingent only if they could not fix the smell in the room and repair the toilet. The cleaning staff poured bleach on the carpet and sprayed air freshener in the room to try to cover the smell, which left an overwhelming stench of rotting food and bleach that was unbearable. The toilet despite being "fixed" 3 times, broke down twice more and almost over flowed with water. Finally, we threatened to switch to the Hilton Cavaliere at 4AM in the morning on the 3rd day, after an unrestful night of sleep. We were finally switched to another standard room (while still paying for a junior suite rate). After complaining some more we were switched to a proper junior suite on the 4th floor. Although the room was very nice, there was construction on the street and one could hear the jackhammer at 6AM in the morning every day. The bed linens were heavily starched linens and very uncomfortable. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to get a restful night of sleep, or who simply wants to relax.
