Quinault Beach Resort and Casino, Ocean Shores

Our first trip to Quinault was 2 years ago, everything was great, except the service by waitresses and bartenders. Went back again with 4 other couples for a weekend away this year. Our room was clean enough, except for the peeling wallpaper in the bathroom and the lumpy, uneven bed that didn't allow us to get any kind of decent rest. At dinner, the Caesar salads came out with brown lettuce, but the entree was amazing. The spa service was great. While gambling though, it is nearly impossible to get a drink, and being stuck at a table or machine, that should NOT be an issue. So, go for dinner or the spa, but spend the rest of your time somewhere else. Don't trap YOURSELF in this place that knows you're stuck, so the service is horrible. I would have fallen over if ONE employee had said excuse me in passing, whether they were pushing a cart or carrying a tray. If you do stay though, go over to the Days Inn and ask for a room key so the shuttle at Quinault will take you into town.

Our stay at the Quinault Resort was about the beach and the pool for my birthday. Ocean Shores is still beautiful and the Quinault Resort has a great view. But the hotel was a disappointment. The pool was full of loud and unsupervised kids every time I checked on it until bedtime -- there is no adult swim time. I am not anti-kids, but it's hard to swim laps if there's no place to do it. In the morning before we left we swam. The bottom of the pool was noticeably dirty. The room was clean, but in dire need of attention. The love seat had about a 2 inch gash in the arm with the stuffing coming out. The upholstery was so worn that we couldn't tell what color or pattern it was for sure. Light switches didn't always produce light, often just flickering or nothing. When we were ready for bed, the lamp on my side didn't work. We tried swapping bulbs to no avail, so finally plugged it into the plug on the side wall. In a strange room with limited space, it was somewhat hazardous in the middle of the night. In the morning there is no "continental breakfast", not even a coffee pot set up. If you want coffee wait for the coffee shop to open, or use the mini-pot in the room, where we found no sugar for the coffee. The special at the restaurant was only $5.00, but it was so small we were shocked. Flavor was good, but rice and potatoes are cheap, so why not put some of them on the plate? . . . and the vegetables looked more like a garnish than my favorite part of the meal! No we will not go back. The beach is beautiful but the hotel was disappointing. We expected to be spoiled and were mostly just disgusted. They need better maintenance and better management. It must have been beautiful when first built.

We are regular visitors to Ocean Shores. We travel often and have high standards especially being that I worked in 5 star hotel/restaurant industry. The rooms here are really lovely, spacious well decorated, great views, nice beds, fireplaces and the closest you'll get to the beach. Also best for price in area! The food at Emily's is consistently good and and honestly I think the best at ocean shores! ( many suck) Try the scallops YUM! The sunday buffet is also wonderful.. the spa and pool are nice, the casino well, it's just OK. It's not vegas and it is something to do at night at the beach.. All and all best place to stay at Ocean Shores!

Casino tables dirty with ashes and most tables were not open until after 11 am. Craps table pit boss sets rules and regulations according to shooter and singles out individuals. My Spouse had to get up and get her own coffee during breakfast; the server sees her and doesn't even apologize for the incovenience. Managements failure to follow through with customer concerns or complaint. We would not recommend this establishment if you are looking for a good time.

Went for a couple days of quiet relaxation during the week in September. Room was well appointed and clean with an especially spacious bath area. The bed-sitting room felt crowded with the two-sided gas fireplace bisecting it. Bed extremely comfortable. Need more overhead or brighter lights. The view and sound of the ocean over the marshes was soothing and room was quiet. A few rooms have true balconies but most have a six inch extrusion with a safety rail. This allows a large sliding glass door. Beach was nearly deserted with only an occasional car and a few walkers. The area is secluded and undeveloped and only a few minutes away from the more commercial areas of Ocean Shores. The landscaping respected the natural setting and incorporated native american heritage. However, I was horrified to see that the American flag out front was tattered (I was there on 9/11 when it was flying half-mast). I was told that the wind there tends to shorten the life of the flag. With money flying out of the pockets of customers in the casino, there is absolutely no excuse for this. I requested to see the manager and got several contradictory responses about why he wasn't available. Left him a note and have not heard. Staff attitude by and large was friendly and helpful. I was given an extension at checkout time because I had a massage scheduled. The spa is small but comfortable with a small quiet sitting room with couches and a fireplace. I had probably one of the best massages of my life (thank you Debbie!). The main floor was smoky at times but my room was smoke free. The casino is small with "average joe" customers. The convenience menus posted in the hall were not lighted well enough to easily read them. Ate breatfast and lunch at Emily's - food was mediocre - below Denny's quality at restaurant prices. Exception was the clam chowder with perfectly cooked potatoes and interesting seasoning.

The following is a letter to the manager of the Quinault that hs gone un-answered to date: Mr. Cornett, I was given your card and asked to relay my concerns about the bad experience we had at the resort this last week. The lady's at the front desk said that this was not the first time people have complained. My girlfriend and I called in advance to check available rooms and rates to stay at the resort. We asked for Non-smoking and we really didn't care if it was an ocean view or not. I was told there were no ocean view rooms, however there were non-view available. When we arrived Wednesday, August 6th, we found that the room we wanted was NOT available. We had to settle for a Smoking room. I must say however, it was not as bad as you would expect. We took that room. The next day I called down to see if we could up-grade to a Non-smoking, Ocean-view room. I was told that that would not be a problem however she would call me back within a few minutes to let me know if the room was clean and if we could just transfer our stuff. We NEVER got a call back. The biggest concern however that we have is with the restaurant. Kathy and I both ordered the Rib-eye steak dinner. The waiter came by before we had a chance to tell if everything was OK or not. We never saw him again. I had to get up and look for him to get our bill. The steaks were absolutely terrible. They were MOSTLY fat. They were not cooked to our satisfaction. It was nasty. Kathy could not even eat hers. I cut what little meat there was and ate that. When I told the waiter we were not happy, he just came back with our bill for $75.00. On the way out, I spoke with (Dan ?), the manager (the gentleman with the cane) and he showed NO interest in resolving the problem. He stated that he would talk to the chef. I'm sorry, what good would that have done? Throughout our stay we had more than one of your employees tell us that the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino was going "Down-Hill". I can now see why. People are not happy with all the changes that have been made. I, for one, was not happy to hear that I would not receive any Comps for my gambling. I had a problem with the table games rating my play for your "Points System". When I bet $25 to $200 per hand (several times, two hands at a time) on "Three Card Poker" and sit at the table for several hours, I would have thought I was a more valued customer then the "Regulars" that wager $1 on the "Pair-plus" only. In closing, we thought you should be made aware of these issues and know that we were not satisfied with our stay at the Resort. Recommending your Resort to others will be difficult if a resolution to these problems is not addressed. Sincerely, We have not received an answer to this E-mail nor has a call been made to explain. This seems to be the way to address the problems that we encountered and hope that others will take this to be helpful in NOT going to the Resort in the future.

We had a very enjoyable 3 night/2 day stay (Sun-Wed). At the time, they were offering a Romance Package which included stay in the King Deluxe Room, $50 voucher to Emily's Restaurant, and 1/2 hour massages for two in the spa. Immediately upon check-in, the staff was very helpful and professional. There were two incidents where I was standing alone waiting for assistance and someone asked me if I needed help even if it wasn't their job. Another time, we asked a cleaning staff for help and he brought us a menu and went to find out who signed a guitar hanging in the bar area. The next day he approached us in the lobby and told us. The room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the ocean. We were very impressed with the room. We left the sliding glass door open the entire time we were there to listen to the ocean. As part of the Romance Package, they left bottles of champagne, rose petals on the bed, and chocolate covered strawberries two of the three nights we were there. For the price of the room, the room exceeded our expectations. The floor we were on was very quiet. I was surprised at the quality of the spa. We received a 1/2 hour couples massage. The spa staff were very nice and performed excellent massages. The spa decor and atmosphere was very nice as well. While sitting in the steam room, one of the spa staffers came and got us out in time to watch the sun set in their quiet room. We both thought it was a very thoughtful gesture. Dinner in Emily's was excellent. We had dinner and breakfast there and the food exceeded our expections. The wait staff was quick. We both highly recommend the seafood fettucine dish and the scallops, mushroom and steak dish. After a chilly evening walk, the clam chowder hit the spot. As far as the bistro, the food was appropriate for a quick bite to hold you over inbetween meals. The food was more like food you would get at a bar. In both restaurants, we felt the prices were appropriate and reasonable. For being a casino, we thought food should have been accessible 24 hours. We are not gamblers at all, so we decided to try our hand at a few slot machines. The casino staff was very understanding and helpful in explaining the machines. We weren't impressed with it, but that's only because we aren't gamblers. At one point I accidentally hit the service button and the staff raced over to assist, but laughed with us when I explained the error. Beach access was perfect! The beach area in front of the resort had less traffic than other areas at Ocean Shores I've been to. We stood at the water's edge at sunset and the beach area was virtually empty. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the sushi bar. My husband eats sushi on a regular basis and for the price, we should have received larger portions and the flavor was only "ok". The service was EXTREMELY SLOW! In our opinion, this is not a place to bring young children. There are no children activities near the resort. Older children may do ok. As a couples inexpensive get-a-way, this place is a plus. We were on a tight budget and by no means felt like it. We highly recommend it.

My wife and I love the "Q". The rooms are great,the food (breakfast and dinner) is outstanding, the ocean is wonderful and the casino is fun.

I tried to book a reservation online - After going through all the steps to complete the reservation, I get a message saying the reservation page is having "technical difficulties - try again later". So I call the reservation line direct and I get this girl who was extremely short with me. I tried booking through her, even though she was incredibly rude, and then she books the WRONG DATES! At that point I told her to cancel the whole thing. What a joke!

My Husband and I enjoy touring the casino scene. We like this casino for the ocean. It is a bit small as casino's go and they don't provide much of a non-smoking section. They have a Friday-Saturday night buffet in the formal restaraunt but if you don't reserve early you will miss it and have to order off of the regular menu which is a little pricier than most of the casino's we have visited. The hotel is nice and modern. The bed is wonderful and it makes it difficult to get out of it in the morning. The ocean view rooms allow for a slider with a rail so that you can listen to the ocean surf which I find very relaxing just before bed. We sometimes on warm nights sleep with the slider open all night just so we can listen to the surf. There are a few good eating places in town and some fun beach town tourist shopping. Most of the beaches you can drive onto up to a certain point. I like the fact that pets are not allowed. No offense to the pet crowd. I have owned my share of pets but I prefer my rooms free of pet dander and fleas and other odors pets may leave behind and nothing bothers me more than paying a large sum of money for what is supposed to be a luxury room and then finding an odor from someones pet having an accident or being bit by fleas left behind so I say good for no pets (sorry). The hotel staff could be friendlier and they really should work on that issue. Maybe a class on how to deal with the public or something. We have stayed here a few times now and the staff does come off as somewhat cold at times. But not enough that it would stop us from coming. Last but not least, booking on line is easy but sometimes they have rooms when the internet says they don't. I have called the hotel directly and gotten a room a couple of times when the on-line booking sights said they were full.
