OK Hotel by Airport
We stayed here our final night in Germany. We chose this hotel because it has air conditioning (unlike most German hotels) and because of its proximity to the Frankfurt Airport. I would NOT stay here for any other reasons. It was SO hot in Germany when we were there ( 97*F +humidity) that we needed air conditioning to sleep that last night. It took us between 10 and 15 minutes to get to the airport. The breakfast buffet is included with the cost of the room and was very nice (hard boiled eggs, rolls, bread, a variety of spreads, fruit, cheese, cold meat, coffee, juice, etc.) The staff was very helpful. We had 2 rooms (one for our kids and one for us) but the air conditioner in one room was not working. The staff quickly gave us another room down and across the hall. I addition to the air conditioning, I was very happy to find an outlet in the bathroom that took both American and European plugs. There was a switch to change voltages. This was great! We had a transformer adaptor, but this outlet allowed us to charge more than one thing for the flight home at a time (Nintendo DS, iPod, Kindle, etc.) I was also very happy with the cleanliness of the bathroom. The toilet and shower where both very clean. The furniture (beds, tables, desk, chairs, etc) were in very good condition, with no marks or scratches.
This hotel is really "in the middle of nowhere." There is one Italian restaurant within walking distance (about 2 blocks away.) We went there for dinner, but were not impressed by the food or facilities. There were flies everywhere and the food was average, at best. But, we were worn out and didn't want to drive to get dinner.
We were in the non-smoking "wing," but the room they switched us to (due to the air conditioner not working in 1 of our 2 rooms) smelled like cigarettes. Clearly someone had smoked in that room. I'm sure they would have given us yet another room, but my husband didn't feel like "dealing with" yet another room switch. So, he said he would take that room with one of our kids. My other son and I slept in the 2nd room.
The worse thing about the rooms were the markings on the walls. All 3 rooms had horrible black marks along the baseboards throughout the entire room. Also, there were marks on the walls. On one wall by the bed, right were your face would be when sleeping, was what looked like large pencil smudges (2"X3"). On other walls, where what appeared to be grease marks and other discolorations. It disturbed me that these marks had been allowed to build up and that no effort had been made to clean the walls. The condition of the walls and baseboards was similar in all 3 rooms, so obviously the walls hadn't been cleaned over an extended length of time, if ever. The condition of the walls made we wonder about the carpet we were walking on. It was a dark color, so who knows what was on it!?!
In summary, I would only stay in this hotel if you need to be close to the airport in the heat of the summer.
