A hidden gem, great for a weekend
Beautiful neighborhood, we visited during Fall when the leaves were still green and the Roman light crisp and golden hued. It's vibrant.
Great value, the hotel staff is friendly and attentive. We had a standard room on the second floor with a window overlooking the courtyard; it was clean, comfortable, quiet, and small. Breakfast is excellent.
Sightseeing, very easy to get to all the spots by taking the tram to Piazza Argentina, or the subway line at the Piramide stop. Rome is easy to navigate on foot too, follow the signs that mark walking paths.
Shopping, go to Porta Portese--the ancient Roman flea market--on Sunday when everything else remains closed. I bought a dress, sweater, bag, and shoes and thought about getting a suitcase.
Nightlife, many restaurants with prized outside tables and reasonable prices. Cheap eats at the cross streets of Trastevere and San Francesco a Ripa, where old men stand behind the counter and serve the food--grab a ticket and order several pizza and wine for lunch.
Neighborhood secret, go to see Bernini's statue to Ludovica Albertoni next door. It's gorgeous.
