Not great, but not bad either
This hotel is located off Cortaro Road in Marana, Arizona which is located next-door to Tucson (north of Tucson). If this hotel is booked and you need to stay in this area, there are several hotels within a stone's throw of the Holiday Inn Express including: La Quinta, Super 8, Best Western, and Days Inn. There is also a nice Cracker Barrell Restaurant across the street that you can walk to in about 30 seconds. Also across the street is McDonald's, and on the other side of Cortaro Road are serveral fast-food outlets.
The hotel itself is fairly small as far as the Holiday Inn Express chain goes. The pool is extremely tiny, and was dirty when I was there. The cushions for the 3 chairs were dirty and on the ground. The front desk clerk when I checked in was not friendly and barely said two words. I was somewhat offended by her lack of a personality and the way I was treated. There was another guest who was arguing with the manager when I was checking in regarding a $40 bill he was charged for dry-cleaning two shirts. I heard the manager tell his guest that basically it's "not his problem" because they do not do the dry cleaning and is handled by an outside vendor. I did not think the manager was very friendly or helpful to that guest.
The hotel itself was clean, and the rooms were nice. I only have one minor gripe about the rooms, and that is the fact that you can't figure out what channels are on the TV! The channel lineup card in the room does not match what is on TV, and the on-screen display also does not match the channel you are watching. The only way to figure it out is to "channel surf" and figure it out on your own. I wasn't about to ask anyone at the front desk due to what I had experienced earlier.
Overall, the place is actually okay. Next time though, I might drive a few more exits down I-10 to Grant Road and stay at the Hampton Inn.
