Need to be in town awhile at Mayo?
Here is a complete list of Negatives and Positives:
For those of you who like tv. This is not your place.
There is only 10 tv channels. All of the other Rochester Hotels have all the tv channels. This place has a limited tv schedule. The satelite dish sometimes conked out but they amended the situation within a day or two.
no pool. no fitness room. not handicapped accessible. They do not shovel snow. you fear getting off the shuttle bus and not falling down. They act like they are going to shovel their lot and throw their hands up complaining saying the truck is not showing up. they hang a false clipboard with a shoevling schedule in the entrance way. But still no sheveling. yet the hotel across the parking lot from them is well shoveled and maintained.
The pricing stucture is unfair. If you are a mayo employee you get to stay there for as little as $28.00 a night. If you work for Siemens you get to stay there for $38.00 a night. All other poor people coming there not lucky enough to be assocciated such conglomerates have to pay full price for a room.
Some frequent Mayo patients might get a price break, but you need to ask and see what mood the manager is in. Overall, there should be a point system based upon visits and stays instead of random discounting.
I was standing up there and heard three different rates given. after paying full price, this is just not fair.
The bedss are uncomfotrable, your basic hotel mattress.
The curtains are fair if you are staying on the second floor. The first floor you need to keep them closed all the time or people can just walk by and see in the room.
Shuttles run once an hour. meaning if you miss one you are stuck an hour at the hotel or clinic.
you have to clean your own room except for once a week maid service. They give you the clean linen and towels at the desk.
Positives:
In good weather parking is ample and accesible.
Quiet.
Clean room, full size fridge, two electric cook top.
enough counter spcae to make a meal and separate 2 chair dining table to eat. A recliner chair in room.
Staff fairly warm.
Internet connection worked well
Summation: If you are stuck at Mayo and prefer an apartment life, rather than hotel treatment then go for it.
