Nice Place - but skip the tours!!!

My wife just returned on 9/13/06 from the Sheraton Vistana Villages Resort in Orlando.
We are not big vacationers, but the deal we were offered in a letter from Sheraton/Starwood to try this resort for 4 nights and 5 days seemed too good to pass up. $149 for the stay - total - and we were promised $100 in cash - and no sales pitch!
We got there on Saturday and got a Premium one bedroom room with a balcony overlooking the pool in the newer section called the Keys, away from the main, older area.
Pros:
The room is fantastic - complete with all of the amenities of home. We really liked having the washer and dryer (my wife can now pack far less clothing next time).
The pool area was kept very clean and the hot tub was wonderful.
There were two TV's in the villa so I could watch the football game and my wife could check out the lifetime movie.
The convenience store/grill/bar was a bit of a walk - but the food selection and food were reasonably priced (e.g. $7.25 for a chicken Caesar salad that was delicious) and it had STARBUCKS coffee for less than $2.00 for a Grande - much less than I would have expected at a Sheraton.
There is a great fitness center in the keys section - better than the one in the main section.
They seem to have thought of everything - including towels for the fitness center and the pool.
The grounds are georgeous.
We got housekeeping included in the deal though if we had to pay for it we would have skipped it.
Cons:
There is no food or bar in the keys section -0 you have to walk to the main section (5 minutes) to get to these areas.
No one seems to enforce the rules. We had to endure loud music and partying 20-somethings the first night. We ended up calling the main desk to complain at 4am and 5:30 am until it finally stopped. They should patrol the area for this sort of thing. The hot tub says no one under 21 allowed but we had to contend with toddlers in diapers (yuck!) in a hot tub (one almost drowned cause he copuld not touch the bottom). HELLO PARENTS!!!!
The maintenance crew powerwashed the hallway outside our room on the second day and shorted out the elevator and the lights - and though we reported it - it still had not been fixzed when we left.
But worst of all was the sales pitch. We were offered an additional $75 (plus another $12 in Seaworld Discounts) to listen to a "90 minute presentation" on the wonders of vacation ownership.
Let mne tell you -0 it is a RIPOFF of the highest magnnitude. While ny wife and I are old enough to be street saavy not to fal for fast talking slaes people, meny others were being talked into spending $10,000 to $25,000 for a one week one or two bedroom Timeshare.
Just for reference, we determined that the $16,790 One bedrrom PRemium Prime week they offered can be had for $7900 right down the strreet at teh Timeshare resale store and , unbelievably, is really worth less than $4,000 on EBAY. So you stand to lose over $12,000 for your invenstment the minute you sign up for it. DON'T DO IT!! Dopn't subject yoruself to the fast talking, ecteemely clever sales staff!
We may buy one of these vacation weeks - but if we do it will be for fraction of what they wre selling them for at the Hotel.
all in all, we had a great 30th wedding anniversary trip and hope to do it again in the near future
