Beautiful Grounds, Average Amenities
The setting of the resort was beautiful - the lobby overlooked a golf course and a slither of Toledo Bend (though the view of the bend was mainly dominated by trees). There was a path among the rolling hills of the golf course which lead to green foliage and bridges overlooking the bend. The resort is conveniently located a few minutes drive from Toledo Bend where one can fish or take a boat cruise. (Therefore this resort is primarily for the enjoyment of those whom enjoy golfing and fishing) The lobby was grand with a sufficient amount of seating. The pool was half indoors and half outdoors, which was very nice. There was a small exercise room which we enjoyed. We did not go to the spa because there were no appointments available (therefore I am assuming the spa does an ample business). Other than swimming, there were not any activities for children, which is a downside for our family. The bedrooms were somewhat outdated. The hallway had a trace of cigarette smoke. The amenities (shampoo, conditioner, and toilet paper) were not replenished day to day and we ultimately ran out of all three. The food was delicious (there is no room service, however you are given the option of eating in your room). My biggest complaint would have to be regarding the service - the resort employees (mainly those working at the front desk and the Sabine Social bar) were very rude. I found those employees working in the restaurant to be nicer, however. Nevertheless, I would recommend this hotel for primarily adults who enjoy fishing and golfing. Others will enjoy the pool, spa, and restaurants, however those who do not enjoy relaxation may find themselves in a state of boredom.
