Perfect weekend getaway
I don’t usually write reviews for my trips, but given the absolutely wonderful stay my wife and I had at the Hyatt Regency Huntington beach, I wanted to be sure to share my experience. My wife, 6-month-old son, and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency for an overnight trip for Mother’s Day this past weekend. Before our trip, I spoke with Stefanie Kaplan, the Senior Sales Manager, who made room recommendations for traveling with an infant, helped us arrange babysitting for an evening out, made dinner and brunch reservations for us, and helped to put my mind at ease about traveling with our son. She was prompt to reply, responsive, friendly, and extremely helpful.
Once we arrived, we quickly realized that Ms. Kaplan’s friendly and helpful demeanor was not unique at the Hyatt. The staff met us upon arrival, unpacked our car, and stored our bags until our room was ready. At the front desk, we were greeted by Emily, who confirmed our reservations and provided us with an overview of the resort. Our check-in was delayed by about 10 minutes while housekeeping finished cleaning the room, so Emily generously and unexpectedly offered us a discount for our inconvenience.
Given that we were traveling with an infant, my wife and I chose to stay in a Sunset Suite to have some extra space. The room was exquisite—pictures on the website do not do it justice. Everything was meticulously arranged, the bathrooms were spacious and spotless, and sliding glass doors in both the living room and bedroom provided picturesque views of the beach, as well as access to private patios off of each room. If this wasn’t enough, we had champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries waiting for us in the room as a Mother’s day surprise for my wife!
We had dinner that night at the Californian, a AAA Four Diamond restaurant located on the resort. Our meals were delicious and perfectly prepared. More importantly, though, the service was, again, outstanding. Our server, Danielle, was professional, outgoing and courteous, prompt to take our orders, and checked in on us frequently but without hovering. She made excellent recommendations regarding our meals and wine pairings. We live about an hour away, but would come back again just for dinner!
The next day, we returned to the Californian for their special Mother’s Day brunch. It was a beautiful day, and we were offered a nice seat on the patio by the fountains with a view of the ocean. The buffet was incredible with many delicious options. Danielle was again or server, and although she and the other servers were incredibly busy, they made us feel like we were the most important guests there. Our coffee and champagne glasses were never allowed to go dry, and the staff were all quick to recommend their favorites from the buffet.
Throughout our stay, we spent time in both the adult and children’s pool areas. Our son loved splashing in the kiddie pool, and my wife and I enjoyed sitting in lounge chairs poolside and jumping in to cool off when we got hot. Despite it being a busy weekend (there was at least one wedding there during our stay), we never had difficulty finding a few loungers by the pool in which to relax. There were bars by both pools as well, and the servers at both pools were again very prompt and responsive with drink and food orders. On Sunday afternoon, my wife had a massage at the Pacific Waters Spa. She said that it was one of the best massages that she’s ever had.
This was overall one of the best trips that my wife and I have ever taken. She had a wonderful first Mother’s day, and I thank the incredible staff at the Hyatt Regency for helping me to make this happen. It was an expensive weekend, and we don’t splurge often. However, it was worth every penny, and we’d do it again in a heartbeat. We were pampered the entire weekend, and treated like the most important people at the resort. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay for longer, but we will definitely be coming back!
