Everything but the room was great

This is an historic hotel, which sometimes creates an uneven experience like mine. I got stuck in the unrenovated section--the room was small and the walls paper-thin. I was awakened at 2 a.m. by some giggling girls next door and subjected to their gossip--every word came through our adjoining door as clearly as if they were in my own room! Friends have told me that other rooms are fabulous, apartment-size with kitchens. Mine was a closet by comparison.
However, the location is great--near the many small bistros of the Central West End, near the Washington U. Med School and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and across the street from the trees and fields of Forest Park. The staff was friendly and efficient, the shops and services were those expected in a grand hotel (the 6-screen cinema was a surprise!), and the downstairs public rooms were elegant and well-maintained.
That said, I'll probably stay somewhere else next time I go to St. Louis. If I stay at the Chase again, I'll ask for an upgraded room.
