Don't think we'd return...
We have mixed feelings about our stay at the Groenhof. It is situated on a beautiful street, close to Vondel Park, and the square- we could get to the action in just minutes. That was great. The staff was helpful, and we enjoyed the kitty who lived next door who often dropped in for a visit.
The rate was very high for the room, as compared to the more upscale rooms we stayed in in Antwerp, Belgium, and Belfort France during our trip- those rooms were much nicer, and much cheaper than the Groenhof room.
It was disappointing and very odd that we were told that no food was allowed in the rooms, we had never heard of that! We ordered out, and we had to go downstairs to the Breakfast Room to eat it. There is not a restaurant there so you either eat out, or order in, which was basically OK with us. The lady at the desk ordered pizza for us. The hotel is not handicapped-friendly, I was on crutches and there were VERY steep stairs going downstairs. I also burnt my hand on the back part of the water faucet on the shower while turning the water off. Not pleasant.
The owner, James, was nice to deal with, and gave us some nice suggestions on things to do in Amsterdam.
