US Travelers Inn Suites, Carlsbad

Had to leave at 2:00 in the morning...they did not charge for the room

I had reserved a suite, but when we arrived we were told that the all the suites were blocked off for maintenance and we were offered a standard room at a discounted rate. We accepted, but I thought that our experience there was probably not going to be good. However, the lady at the service desk went out of her way to try to accommodate us in a suite; she made phone calls and went out to figure out why the suites were blocked off and she found a suite for us. When we came back into the hotel after getting our luggage, she offered the suite at the same discounted rate and we accepted. The suite was clean, large, and very comfortable; we had a king size bed, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker; the bathroom was roomy and had a Jacuzzi tub. The hotel's indoor pool is clean and the water is really warm; the hotel offers a great selection of breakfast items in the mornings; the staff is friendly; the only downside was that some of the towels were really thin and raggedy. We plan to go back to Carlsbad in the winter and plan to stay at the Comfort Inn again.

we enjoyed the friendly staff, didnt have to worry about safety.It was excellent.The kids enjoyed the indoor pool.Our suite was very roomy felt like home with the microwave and refridgerator we loved it cant wait to go back!!

Stayed there Jan 2 & 3, 2008. The room was clean and odor free. Asked for non-smoking with King bed and received it. Made reservation online the day before arriving there. Price was as advertised. King Beds was comfortable. The staff were very pleasant, helpful and accomodating. Breakfast was Continental, but just fine. TV had cable, parking was good. Everything about our experience at this hotel was positive.

Decent room, clean, quiet, desk and breakfast personnel helpful. Breakfast was okay, we like making the waffles. Pool/hot tub okay. I have seen bad reviews on a lot of Carlsbad hotels so I was afraid but it turned out fine. Only problem was that a few of the beetles that are all over the ground outside would also be in the bathroom area in the morning -- they spray for bugs so the bugs in the room were dead. They weren't roaches and it was just a few so we weren't too concerned. Hotel is further from Cavern by about 10 mins but looks like a nicer end of town.

There were several problems that were found with this place, especially compared to any other Comfort Inn we have ever stayed at. First, there is not elevator--this is a problem when you have someone almost crippled on the second floor. Second, the was no lighting going up the stairs and my mother fell because she could not see the steps. Third, there was no refrigerator, microwave, or table and chairs in our room which according to their website there would be. And finally even though our room was non-smoking it still smelled strongly of smoke. Comfort Inn in all other places have been very comfortable but this one in Carlsbad, NM--not so much!!
