Being bumped by Residence Inn Cottonwood
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/17/08
I was attending a meeting at Snowbird this week. This hotel was one of the preferred hotel for the meeting. On arrival at the Residence Inn Salt lake City Cottonwood on 7/15 morning at around 8am I was informed that a room was not available till after 3pm. Understandable. I went to my meeting all day and came back at 8pm to be told that my confirmed room was no longer available. On probing further, I learned that the GM had made an executive decision to relocate me to another hotel downtown without informing me before arrival. (They had my phone number on file). The GM told me that he had the right to bump me from the hotel and relocate me wherever he pleases. I was in total shock at this having traveled and stayed in 100s of hotels around the world. After much discussion I refused to accept a change of location offer particularly because I had a confirmed reservation made more than a week ago. I also learned that the GM of the hotel had done this because I was staying only one day. Amazing!! To add to my consternation, right after I moved from the front desk two other guests (one of them a colleague of mine attending the same meeting!) was allocated a room for one night. I must say I am totally APPALLED at the service and the legality of a arbitrary decision made by this GM. AMAZING. I plan on never staying in a Residence Inn after this experience. After all, there are no guarantees I will have room after having a conformed reservation.
