Gateway Hotel & Conference Center, Hickory

Me and my wife were at this hotel on bisness. We were in the extended stay part. The staff was really friendly and would do anything in the world for anybody, but after the first week my wife started getting what we thought were hives. She went to the doctor about two weeks later because they were getting worse. They told her it was bed bug bits. I killed one a couple of nights before, but I never seen one and didn't know what it was. We told the hotel what was going on. They came to the room and " checked for bed bugs" and "didn't find a thing." They told our boss they didn't have them and we must have brought them with us. She never had anything like that before. They refused to admit they have bed bugs unless we could provide physical evidence. So we found another one, put it in the napkin and left the bedbug spray on the bed. I hope they got the message. Overall the room was clean and it suited our needs. Except the bedbugs.

We stay in a lot of hotels. This hotel is reasonably priced, the staff is very considerate. The hotel is older than some but they keep it clean and it is just up the street from the furniture mart. We have stayed there many times and will continue. I have stayed in the very best of hotels and all have some issues at times. The letters that I have read in the ratings seem to be duplicated every so many months. Look at the letters and look at the dates they are duplicated!! I have to say that this hotel has GREAT meeting Space and that you have to try it out for your self.

Groups of people blocking the outside doors cussing and smoking. Had to go through a cloud of smoke just to get in. Rooms were clean and priced right but the neighborhood ws less than safe.

and I will also tell all my friends and business associates not to. Hotel was nice but my family had to walk through a door and hallway that was full of wife-swappers. It seems that they host "swinging" parties there and these people apparently have no respect for anyone including themselves. They leave their doors open and apparebntly think that it's okay for children to be exposed to this. Will not ever return.

We have had two very bad experiences here. There are several better hotels around I-40 and L-R Blvd. I'd keep driving if this property had the only rooms in Hickory.
