Extremely Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/10
We drove up Friday afternoon and arrived at the hotel at 5pm. Upon entering the parking lot, I was shocked to be charged $30 just to get into the property, even though I had a reservation! I paid the money and checked in. The lobby is very small, though the entire resort is very themed.
Our room was on the fourth floor, so we made our way to the elevator to go upstairs... and we waited, and waited, and waited. It's easy to take something as simple as dual elevators for granted until you are in a hotel that clearly cut corners to save costs and just installed one in each breezeway. We finally made it up to the room and, upon opening the door, I almost laughed. What had been advertized as a "2 bedroom" unit was obviously a standard hotel room with a few walls thrown up, making the living area and bedrooms ridiculously cramped. The pictures on the website must have been taken with an extremely wide angle lens. Technically, the room did, in fact, sleep 6. However, the second bedroom with the bunk beds was so small that it had no dresser and no bedroom door. There was even a sign on the wall that read, "Be Advised, this room had no door by order of the fire marshal." Our master bedroom had no door on the (small) closet and no clock. All the rooms (or better said, areas) did have their own TVs and the kitchenette had a microwave, minifridge (that did not get cold) and a coffee maker.
Of course, the kids were eager to rush down to the exciting-looking pool and slides, which are the centerpiece of the resort. We went down stairs and quickly noticed another design flaw... this pool was completely surrounded by the six-story hotel on all four sides, literally extending right up to the walkways for the rooms. So, here you are, in the middle of the state of Florida, with a pool completely blocked off from all hopes of a breeze. There is NONE, not a bit, ever. It is probably 10-15 degrees warmer by the pool that it is out in the parking lot.
Spending Friday night and Saturday at the pool, we were all struck with how dirty the facilities were. The water was cloudy, the slides were rusted and stained, and the mall area (where the indoor food and activities are) was dingy. We felt very uncomfortable the entire time. The maid even forgot to visit our room on Saturday. We called housekeeping and she showed up a couple hours later. We did find solice in a semi-healthy food option with the on-site Subway, but other than that, good luck... prices are high and quality is low.
After speaking with some other guests about being charged for parking, I was told that I should not have been. I decided to 'stop by' the front desk to see if they could correct it. While the staff was very nice, it did not seem that they really knew what they were doing. They sent me from the lobby out to the parking guardhouse. The parking attendant then sent me back inside. There, the same lady tried calling managers for about 15 minutes. I told her that she could simply apply a credit to the room account, but she said the parking is a completely different vendor and cannot be credited that way. So, when no one came, she sent me back out to the parking guardhouse. There, the attendant finally called a manager who walked with me back into the lobby, where she credited my card for the parking charges. The entire event took 30 minutes!
Positives?? The kids did have a great time and were entertained. They loved the evening shows, which are free. We even got to be in one of the family competitions and my niece got slimed... which she absolutely loved.
The Verdict: For the same amount of money, we could have stayed on Disney property in a clean room with impeccable service and enjoyed one of their resort pools. This hotel is way over-rated, unmaintained and underwhelming.
