Run away

My 6 and 8 year old kids thought it was the greatest hotel in the world. My husband and I were totally turned off, in every way. The room we booked, and paid for in advance (2 BR King/Bunk themed suite) was somehow "not available" and we were stuck in a dingy 2 BR with a Full sized bed and 2 twins, with bare beige walls, in the back building, facing the parking lot. I called to talk to the manager, and after 15 minutes of being put on hold and transferred around, somehow the room we booked magically became available, but we were told to get ready as someone would come immediately to move us. 30 minutes later, I called, and was told someone just left. 20 minutes later -- same thing. And on, and on, for almost 1 1/2 hours until we were moved. The room was as ordered, but WOW was it tiny and dingy! It was in keeping with the property -- an old Holiday Inn with a few Nick characters and orange paint splashed here and there. The staff was hit or miss: some were friendly, some were awful, cranky, and unhelpful. The pool was very cool but not very clean -- lots of stuff floating around. The food in the restaurant was actually good, and the waitstaff there was overall very good, too (although, inexplicably, there was a party of 8 adults getting wasted on beer while their dozen kids smeared cupcakes everywhere and overturned chairs at their own table - granted, not the hotel's fault). But everything is an extra fee, it's incredibly crowded and noisy, not particularly well organized, and, most important, just plain gross (and not in a good way). Plus, it is so expensive. Adding in meals and a few modest souvenirs, we spent $650 for a 2 night stay! And that's with a supposed deal on the room. Go to a moderately priced hotel and spend the day at Disney or another theme park -- it will cost the same, the kids will be as happy if not more so, and the parents will be so much happier.
