Almost Perfect
Absolutely wonderful place, but...
Took an hour drive to get to the resort where we were told they had overbooked and didn't have a room for us. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were brought drinks from the bar and asked to wait. Over an hour later nobody had even attempted to talk to us. Finally we asked what was going on and we were offered a $200 voucher and another hour in a taxi back toward the airport to stay at the Moon Palace for a night (we were also given the option to not sign for the voucher and spend the night in the lobby). When we returned the next day there was still no room for us. We finally got into a room that evening...one full day later than we had reserved.
Given the first day's ordeal, it was going to take a lot to turn this trip around...I'd say they almost got there.
The restaurants were all good, but the Mexican food is probably the best, go figure. 24 hour room service at no additional fee. Grounds are beautiful, including a pilates/yoga studio with ocean views. Butterflies and butterfly-eating iguanas all over the place.
Rooms are nice and service staff went out of their way to be kind.
Nice indoor pool for us sun-phobic gringos. Waiters came by every few minutes to refill our drinks.
Romantic, comfortable, and relatively affordable for such luxury. We hope to go again soon, but plan to camp out in the bar the first night.
A few days after we left, the resort was crushed by hurricane Emily...hopefully the rebuild included a few rooms for people with reservations.
