What a wondeful place! We had the time of our lives! Staff, entertainment, food and room were fabulous. We are going back again this year. Only 2 drawbacks, sort of far from airport and no ocean access at resort but we didn't even really care because how great everything else was!
We went here for our honeymoon and it was everything we could have ever wanted. There's so much to do that we didn't get to do it ALL! we definitely will be going back. If not to the Aventura Spa then to another of the Palace Resorts.
Service here was AMAZING! We always had what we needed, when we needed. The All-inclusive is amazing as well... not only do you get food and drinks... etc... you get free tours during your stay. They have shows almost every night also!
We did NOT want to leave!
Got married here in 2006, returned for another wedding in 2007. Both times had a wonderful experience. Awesome service, huge place, nice rooms, attentive front desk and housekeeping staff, unbelievable spa. Food isn't top-notch but it never seems to be at an AI resort. The Asian restaurant was our favorite!!! I would recommend this place to anyone unless they are looking for convenience to town. It's a good 20 minutes to Playa and over an hour from the airport. Really, the service is above and beyond anywhere else I've ever stayed.
We had a perfect honeymoon thanks to Aventura Spa Palace!
The staff was wonderful and friendly, and we never felt like tipping was expected. However, we did tip because the service is better than anything I've seen in the USA.
The restaurants are all good with no reservations necessary and no waiting. Room service is prompt and yummy as well. I found the Japanese "Mo Mo Na Hana" and the Mexican restaurant to be spectacular. They make the guacamole fresh before your eyes and it is devine.
The pool areas were not crowded and there were plenty of areas in the shade and sun to choose from. The beach is rocky; there is not a smooth sand-to-ocean area, but you won't miss it.
The rooms are clean and have a nice big shower and soothing jacuzzi tub facing your ocean view. The sliding balcony doors shut out all sounds from the grounds, but the main room door from the hallway let a lot of echoing noise through. As long as you kept yourself busy the day before, you'll sleep right through it.
If your reservation includes the local tours, enjoy everything you can squeeze in, but still leave yourself at least one full day to relax by the pool. You should make your tour reservations soon after you check in because some of the tours/activities are not daily. We highly recommend the Paradise Snorkeling tour and parasailing. Bring bio-degradable sunscreen.
We stayed 7 days/6 nights and wished it was longer. If you can afford it, go for 10 days or more. This was a big expense for us (second largest of the whole wedding next to my ring), but it was worth every penny! ENJOY!
There were no beaches which was a real downer for me. We had access to rocky shorelines. Luckily the Palace Resorts let you into their sister hotels. Xpa-hu had much better beaches but we had to cab over there and back. My hubby and I went when there were major repairs going on as well. (None of their websites or phone agents mentioned that fact before we got there) However, I love the all-inclusive bit. The "night clubs" were hilarious. We got treated to salsa-disco-and something I don't have a name for. The staff was genuine and very helpful. They were almost out of their minds if you spoke some Spanish to them. We sat through the time share talk so we could get massage credits, and I almost considered going for it. Ahh if only the economy would let me.
Aventura spa palace is amazing! There is finnally a resort where adults can let loose and not wory about offending any children, or worriny about how they act around them. There is so much to do here it is unreal! Every kind of food, and drinks you can imagine, all paid for up front! The rooms are very very clean and spacious. I was there for my honeymoon for 6 nights 7 days. We wished we could stay for 6 weeks. The trips included are amazing and if you want to do something else they can hook you up! I am not a massage guy but we had a couples massage and I never felf that relaxed before. If you get the chance to go to this resort DO IT!!!!!
Aventura SPA going away from Adults only in April 2009. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor before booking your trip. They will allow kids soon and no more adults only. Help fight Palace reorts by reading the reviews and submitting letters. Help keep this place a adults only.
Food was surprisingly high quality - but only at dinner. Otherwise, decent buffet.
**Spa and Locker Room**
Wear a bathing suit if you get a spa treatment - there is no nudity in this locker room, and you'll want to take advantage of the hydrotherapy treatments included with your service. If you don't opt for a spa service, head down from the covered pool/jacuzzi/juice bar area for a secret locker room that offers much of the same amenities, including staff to give you spa slippers and bring you a cool scented towel in the steam room or sauna.
I learned on our last full day we had been put on the "noisy" end of the hotel. The noise was coming from the staff, NOT the guests! The clientele there was not at all rowdy or drunk. But the announcers for the games turned the sound system up so high it drowned out conversation on the beach in the surrounding area. He used a style I saw on Mexican television, which was to get excited about every other thing that happened, yell loudly, and Constantly demand "Applauses Applauses!!!!"
This was especially obnoxious when the "event" was basically a sales pitch for their store, allegedly a "fashion show". That was the point where I could take no more, and they did turn down the speakers when asked.
The events on the other side seemed much quieter, although they did use amplification. If you're not as desperate for shade as I am, you could wander to the far end of the resort, away from the pools, for more quiet. But this resort is HUGE, and it is a pain having to take a shuttle or long hike just to read a book.
These were mostly very basic and cheesy. Before ever getting distracted by the noise, we tried to participate in a few; the announcer was way more into the event than any of the guests. One Mayan dance show, reenacting a ceremony, was absolutely amazing. Another fire show was too repetitive, and we left, but that might just be our taste.
We were very excited to play some cards on casino night, and were sorely disappointed. We waited an eternity for it to begin as long, overly-exited introductions of each of the dealers was made while giant applause was demanded. We finally started playing, only to have the table games stop every hand or so. The first time it was for a screaming match between the tables. The second time, no one seemed to know what was going on. We got frustrated and left.
Be aware that if you take advantage of any sort of discount offer, you probably will not qualify for specials running on their website. We were assured on the phone that we qualified for the unlimited tour promotion, only to find out when we arrived that we were not. Considering the value of the package and what we paid, it seems a reasonable result, and we're chalking it up to one misinformed Palace operator. If you're in that position, get the name of the person, and get what you can in writing. Most of all, don't assume you qualify if you're taking advantage of any type of discount.
The "Guest Services" rep who initially greeted us was actually quite snooty about the matter, obtusely pretending to misunderstand that our weekly rate was a ridiculously high nightly rate as if to shame us for taking the discount. Fortunately, she was the exception to the rest of the staff we dealt with in every other area of the resort, who greeted us in English or Spanish) depending on our mood) were polite, gracious and friendly, and usually stopped short of officious. :-)
My wife and I went for our one year anniversary. The resort was beautiful and was everything that I expected in that regard. It was very well maintained, and the views were gorgeous.
The drinks were good. The food was pretty good...but the menus never change. The desserts are not very sweet, though. If you have ever been on a cruise.....the food at Aventura is not even close to being as good as on a cruise.
I would recommend becoming somewhat fluent in basic spanish, as the wait-staff had trouble understanding special requests. Many had difficulty if you requested your meal prepared differently than on the menu.... it would be delivered as the menu stated.
In addition, we had an incident with the room attendant not paying attention to the DO NOT DISTURB, but all in all, it was a nice place.
We loved this resort. My husband and I just returned from our Honeymoon on May 10,08. We had a great time here. The food was great, and the people were sooo nice! The rooms were really clean and the jacuzzi was big enough for 4 people. The mini bar was a great attraction although with only two of us we didn't seem to use the alcohol too much. The tours they offer were definately worth the time, especially when your meals are also included away from the resort. I would definately suggest going to Playa del Carmen since it is only 15 min away for shopping and then stop at Playacar for dinner since it is part of the Palace resorts and the meal is free.
