Nice Place, Helpful Staff

We dragged off an overnight train from Milan, went into the bookstores in the Hauptbahnhof and decided to try the Memphis. The problem was it was only about 8 in the morning. We walked the short distance from the train station and tried our luck. The very personable manager (with excellent english) found us an available and ready room--for a small extra charge since we came in so early. We crashed for a couple of hours then went out and enjoyed Frankfurt for the day.
The surrounding neighborhood is a little grubby but doesn't appear threatening. It was an easy walk from the Memphis to the downtown, the old-town, and across the river to Sachsenhausen. Very convenient location for anyone coming in by train--or even from the airport if you get off the S Bahn at the HBF.
Our room was comfortable and clean; breakfast the next morning was very good. Our room was on the first floor facing the street so it was a bit noisy for awhile; but things quieted down fairly early.
