Some Good & Some Bad
The Windy Hill Suites is located in a very convenient location, especially if your focus is Cobb County or other areas north of I-285 between I-75 & I-85. If you have business elsewhere you can get on I-75 or I-285 in less than five minutes. (But beware of the legendary Atlanta traffic.)
The property was formerly a Comfort Suites, but in the fall of 2006 it was purchased by the current owners who run it as an independent hotel. When I stayed there in December of 2006 they were doing major renovations, which was VERY noisy. One entire floor was closed and the lobby was stacked with construction detritus. You should verify this project is complete before booking.
I reserved a king suite, but they tried to put me in a much smaller room at first. They relented when I complained and the room I got was nice enough with lots of space, a separate seating area and a little wet bar a la an Embassy Suites. The furnishings were old, but serviceable.
During my week in the hotel there were frequent little aggravations. The wi-fi crashed and they made no effort to fix it. The housekeepers used flat bottom sheets instead of fitted so five minutes after I went to bed they'd come untucked and I was sleeping directly on the mattress. The fire alarm went off for no reason one morning about 9:30, scaring me silly.
Worst of all the day I checked out they hassled me mercilessly to ensure I didn't overstay the noon deadline by even one minute. They started by having a housekeeper pound on my door an hour in advance, and they followed up with two rude phone calls. Most quality hotels will be happy to give you an extra hour. But not the Windy Hill Suites.
I suppose I can't complain given that I paid only $40 per night after booking via one of the online travel sites. But I don't think I'd go back unless I was well and truly convinced the renovations were complete and they had improved their surly customer service.
