Alta Vista Hotel & Conf Ctr, Birmingham

I should have reviewed this place last year, but it slipped my mind. Several friends and I travel to Alabama every year for the Nascar race at Talladega. We always hunt for a good place to stay and a fair rate. a person from our group found this hotel via the Internet which appeared to be nice via their website. All lies we arrived to find No restaurant, No lounge, No Internet access as advertised everything was closed down even the pool was covered and the cover was in tatters. The men working the counter were unhelpful.The electronic card keys hardly ever worked the rooms were dusty and musty. The coffee creamers in the room were hard as a rock.The rooms appeared to have be unused for some time. The free breakfast was a joke. The owners of this hotel and its management are deceitful for not updating their website and unprofessional.Avoid this place like the plague. 0 stars

My husband and I made reservations to stay at this hotel and what a mistake we made. The name maybe nice, but the hotel is far from it. First off, we could not even find the hotel, we literally drove around for 45 minutes looking for this hotel. Its in the worst location. Second, when we arrived we couldn't find any parking. No, not because they were sold out, but because they had a club in the hotel. It was a club for young thugs and such, so you can imagine the people inside. When we checked in, we booked for a rate of $85 but they checked us in for $105.00 plus tax, What a rip off! The lobby was so loud with people yelling and screaming it was insane! We did not feel safe at all in this hotel. We decided to leave, but they said they would not refund us, so we are disputing our charges and contacting the Better Business Bureau. I highly DO NOT recommend this hotel and all guests consider staying somewhere else, to choose other accommodations. This place is not safe and not what they portray to be. Very disappointed and unhappy.

When we first approached it...it was like coming to a haunted house. Its in the middle of nowhere and dark as dark as can be. The sservice was TERRIBLE!!!!!! ROOMS WERE NASTY!! There was a roach on the bed and a spider on the wall! Pubes in the bathroom and a condom on top of the TV, Enough said about the rooms. We walked down demanding our money back and the manager Sunny some foreign guy said there were no refunds and argued about it. Theres a hip hop club inside the hotel...with LOUD MUSIC PLAYED all going on during all this and a gang war going on in the lobby while we were trying to get our money back. Like the review below, consider yourself warned. This place is crazy nasty. I wouldn't stay here if they paid me!

Where do I begin? I was lured to this hotel on a view of a crummy downtown Birmingham. Trust me, its not all that great. The front desk had no idea what they were doing. Checked me innto a dirty room then later checked me into a room that was occupied and I walked in on a couple doing...well you know. I mean serioulsy, this hotel is a joke. The location is terrible. The only thing good about this hotel is the freaking name, they make it sound so nice, but its everything but that. I had to check out and go somewhere else. This hotel is not what you think. If every hotel in all of this joke of a town, and this hotel had rooms, you should camp out in your car. I will never come back to this hotel every again.

I had a nice stay at this hotel. Its not new, but it is well kept. Great View!!! I didnt have bugs or smell problems. Others may had a smoking room, but all smoking rooms smell when you don't smoke.

We spent Sunday night at the Alta Vista and had a wonderful stay. The rooms we had had a great view of downtown Birmingham. There were big pillows, fresh sheets, new blanket and bedspreads. The carpet was in great shape. We didn't worry about going barefooted. The bathrooms were very clean. The hotel is not new but it looks great. When we arrived we asked if we could see a room before we checked in and they were happy to do this. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Staying on Sunday night probably meant there wasn't as much activity involving children and teenagers so the halls were quiet at night. This is a great place to stay.

First of all, the view from our room was SPECTACULAR! The hotel itself is a nice surprise- a great deal for the money. A little hard to find, but worth it. Service was good- relaxed southern hospitality. The breakfast is good and they have a bar now.

The hotel staff is very helpful and friendly. The carpet is new throughout. There is a full breakfast of the true southern fare. Most of all, they have a great view of the city.

This place was filthy. The carpet in the lobby was filthy. The carpet in our room was filthy with stains. The curtains, lamp shades and based was loaded with dust. In fact, the curtains and carpet was stinky. The bathroom tub, toilet, and floor need a good scrubbing. The breakfast, was designed to give you a heart attack: grits with butter, eggs swimming in butter, biscuits and gravy along with fried sausage patties. I asked the host for fresh fruit and he told me that they ate it up yesterday. I like the view from my room but the windows were dirty. I do not recommend this hotel. If you stay here, you will be sorry!

I was in town for the weekend for a wedding at the hotel. We were disappointed in the hotel because there is no restaurant other than the breakfast buffet served in the morning. If yo dont have transportation, there is nothing within walking distance. The room was not really clean. There were bugs in one of our party's rooms and ours could have used alot of elbow grease in the bathroom not to mention some fresh paint. We stayed two nights and the second night was the worst. We asked the front desk for a 4:00 am wake up call on Sunday and a cab at 4:15am not once but twice on Saturday. We never got the wakeup call but we didnt need it after all because the hotel fire alarms went off in the middle of the night and everyone was ordered out of the hotel in their pajamas. There was a prom going on at the hotel that kept everyone up until just before the alarm sounded. It was very difficult to sleep after that anyway. When we came to the front desk at 4:15 am the young man working behind the desk informed us that he didn't know anything about the wake up call or the cab. (I physically saw the previous attendant enter it into the computer.)He then told me he would give me the phone number and I could call a cab if I wanted to.(What great customer service) I was very angry and tired and all I wanted to do was leave and go home. I will never stay here again and I will never recommend this "hotel" to anyone.
