Quality Inn Piedras Negras, Eagle Pass

I have been to Eagle Pass/Piedras Negras twice in the last year and didn't know where to stay while in town. I am on a grad student's budget but wanted to visit friends there. I have been across the border several times on foot and by car. Piedras is really clean and nice compared to other cities overrun with tourists. People there are friendly and drivers are courteous. The hotel was easy to find after getting directions from a friend on the Mexican side. It was clean and new. There was a guard watching cars come in and out. Next door is a brand new "Bodega," which is owned by Wal-Mart. They've got everything you need. There is a bar/nightclub at the hotel that gets pretty packed later with locals in the evening. Restaurants are good around Piedras. In fact, they are better than those in Eagle Pass, which only has an Applebee's. Ask the hotel which are the best. I tried a new one called Barrokas. They had excellent pasta and other plates. I highly recommend Casablanca Inn. It isn't world class, but it was as nice as any major chain hotel in the U.S.
