The most horrific hotel experience of my life
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/20/11
I initially made a reservation for a hotel stay from Saturday, September 17 through Sunday, September 18 and used my debit card to hold the reservation. Upon checking in on Friday night, I told the front desk clerk, JD, that I didn't want any charges on my debit card, so I gave him my credit card to use to bill me. JD said that he would not charge my debit card and would, instead, use my credit card for all charges.
At night, the noise was horrific from the room above.
It sounded as if they were jumping and moving furniture all around upstairs. After about a half hour, my friend called the front desk to complain about the noise. JD answered and said he would talk to them. About 15 minutes later, nothing had changed. Noise got worse if anything. So I picked up the phone and called the front desk. Again, JD said he would take care of it. Another 15 minutes went by and the people above were making so much noise still that I couldn't take it any longer. My friend said I shouldn't go upstairs to speak to the people, but I knew the noise wouldn't cease if I didn't do anything.
I get out of bed in my pajamas, grab the room key, and headed for the front desk. I saw JD who looks like he is 18 and is maybe 100 lbs soaking wet, and told him to come with me upstairs to the room. He followed me to room 222 (I believe that was the room number above me) and we knocked very loud on the door. No answer. So I continued to knock and eventually a guy came out. As soon as he opened the door I could smell pot. So I told the guy in the room that I was calling the police. So at 11:49 pm, I made the phone call. JD called the police as well, because he witnessed people jumping to the ground from all furniture in the room, and they weren't listening to him.
The guy in the room argued and eventually JD called a co-worker who was living in the hotel named Nick. Nick apparently was a manager but is not any longer. Nick would not open the door when I told JD to tell him to come out. At this time I am livid that the manager would not even come out to settle this issue, so I started POUNDING on Nick's door. He eventually came out and JD and I explained the situation. He told the guy in the room who was making all of the noise that he and all of the occupants must leave without a refund. I told Nick that I did not want to be charged for the night. At first he told me that all he could do was give me a 10 percent discount. I was furious. The cops came and I met them outside to tell them what was going on. When I walked back in the hotel, Nick was downstairs behind the front office desk and told me that he in fact would not charge me at all. At that point, I think Nick knew the problem was extremely bad, hence the free night's stay he was giving me.
I went back to my room, and for the next hour, I heard nothing but ruckus from the room above me. It eventually stopped around 2 am, but continued around 6 am. My alarm went off at 6:30 am and after getting ready, I walked down to grab some breakfast. That was a joke. Some cereal and a couple varieties of drinks was what they called "breakfast." When I grabbed some coffee and started walking back to my room, I noticed Nick was at the front desk. I asked him what happened after I went back to my room last night. He told me there was underage drinking and a sexual assault in the room above mine and it turned into a crime scene.
I left the hotel with my friend and was able to check my bank account online. They charged BOTH, my credit and debit cards, for the room. I called the hotel and spoke to Nick. He said it was a mistake that they charged both, but that they will both go away as they are just pending room inspection. What if I didn't have enough funds in my checking account to cover the room? Even though it is pending, the money has been taken from my account.
