This was a horrible experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/31/09
My stay was for 3 nights, paid in advance. I was moved to 3 rooms before I even got settled - 1st could not get into as the key did not work, 2nd was not cleaned as food and beverage containers were strewn around and bed was turned back indicating previous tenant, 3rd appeared clean until I turned back the sheets for inspection and discovered body hair and dirt all over the sheets which indicated it had not been cleaned. Also the bathroom mirror was spotted with water and toothpaste spots, not enough towels for 2 people and hair all over the floor. Found a quarter next to my bed frame and my friend found 1/2 of a used condom and the wrapper next to the base of her bedframe. Management did send up 2 cleaning staff to change the bed linens immediately with me being permitted to observe. While the staff were there, they described how the individual responsible for cleaning my room and who vouched she had but had not was also responsible for doing the same thing to many of the rooms on her list. Management disciplined her by docking her 4 hours in pay. However, the cleaning staff shared with me that an employee was let go the week before for doing exactly the same thing. I went down to breakfast between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. each morning. Breakfast was not as described as many items were missing or had never been put out for guests. The management did not keep things stocked well on any day. Hallways were filthy, oil smudges and hand prints in the elevator and in some instances along certain corridors. Footprints on the carpet throughout the building. Was told 2nd floor was quiet, not to be so. Constant slamming of doors and arguments and yelling from 10 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Trying to save a buck wore me out. I think paying a little extra for a quality place (hard to find one in Somerset) will be the direction I go if I must stay in a hotel there on my next visit.

Pleasantly Surprised

While stopped on the turnpike for dinner, about an hour from Somerset, I realized I couldn't travel much farther. I was sleepy. I phoned my wife, who made reservations at this place. It is right off the turnpike and very accessible. The outdoor appearance is kind of drab and gloomy, so I almost cancelled. But when I got into the room, I was elated to find it very nicely appointed, immaculate and comfortable. There is a free parking garage of sorts, too, which was an added bonus the next morning. It was pouring rain. The only drawback was a really crummy continental breakfast featuring a box of cereal, some stale muffins and a jug of orange juice. But take heart. There is a Starbuck's next door!

Somerset BW

I booked a room witha king size bed and I got a handicap room, with a stand up shower, no biggie, but the reason I stayed there was du to the fact of the price and for the sauna and hot tub. Well, neither worked, the workout room did not have the heat on (it was 20 degrees outside) and the suana i could not get to work, and if you wanted to use the what they called hot tub, bring a bucket to fill it! The room was very clean, everything was in place, no knock to that. But if you offer something, shouldn't it be expected to be there or work? Best bet is to stay at the Hilton or at one of the others. I would also exclude Knights in, doorways are drafty. Somerset is a great place to stay, and visit with all that is around in the area. Just look around and check out the hotel you may stay and know that all is well with it. Don't let them offer what they can't produce. Good luck and Have a blast in the area!

Unsure of a Second Visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/13/05
When I first glanced at the hotel it appeared very clean and it measured up to my high standards for quality at a reasonable price. The lobby was very welcoming, it too was very neat and seemed well taken care of. The front desk clerk was an informative and friendly person. Once in my room I noticed a slight odor, that may have been caused by cleaning agents or was a permanent smell. The room apart from the smell was very presentable. The beds were very neatly made and everything was meticulously cleaned. I noticed that the ice machine on the second floor was broken and judging from the sign had been broken for quite some time, which made me second guess the upkeep on the hotel. when I attempted to use the "health club", I discovered the jacuzzi was out of order and there didn't seem to be any attempt to make it workable, I was informed it had not ever been functionable. There was only a very small sauna, accompanied with a bowflex and tredmill in a regular sized hotel room. It was not my idea of a "health club" but advertised as so. Overall I would say that the hotel was a fairly clean hotel and had excellent staff. It was only lacking in the fact that there was no pool, no exercise room, and not an efficent maintenance crew.
