Mayfair New York Hotel, New York

The location and acessability were A-1! Yes, the rooms are small, but when I am in the city, I only sleep in the room. The AC was fabulous..second only to the comfort of the bed. I viewed the tiny room as quaint, and filled with history. The elevator is only about 3 ft x 3 ft..again..historic! Our room was super clean every day, and very, very quiet. You don't even realize you are in one of the busiest, noisiest cities in the world until you leave the building! The only complaint I had was the fact I couldn't access my internet from the room..which was solved by going to the lobby. At $160 per night in the middle of Times Square, you just simply cannot beat the value. Additionally, since we drove in from Michigan, there was concern about parking. The Mayfair partners with a wonderful lot only about a block away. We were able to secure our vehicle from Sunday through Wednesday for only $72. The hotel and lot are very close to the Lincoln Tunnel, so it was easy-in, easy-out of the city for us. Win.

It is not a hotel where you spend the day idling away. The rooms are too cramped for that, and my view was of a brick wall a few feet away. However, you sleep well, and the location is great close to Times Square.

Great location up from Times Square.The rooms are like tight boxes.The rates not bad considering what you get.The staff, maids and restaurant nice.. You cannot beat the location as it is just a few blocks from Times Square and not far from Central Park, museums, 5th Ave. Small rooms but very clean and it was quiet as well. You have the Broadway shows all around you. Will definately stay there again when going back to nYc.

First, the location almost next door to the Eugene O'Neil Theater and across the street from the Ambassador Theater, and just one block from Broadway, is excellent. But, I found that to be the only redeeming feature about my stay at this hotel. My room was tiny with what seemed to just about two feet on either side of the full bed. The decor appeared dated and worn. The small TV did not have cable channels available. The bathroom overall seemed unclean and had what appeared to be mold-type stains in the grout between the tiles. Bath linens were frayed and worn. Bed linens smelled musty. Room walls and doors were dinged up and scratched in various places. Wood (!) handles on bathroom faucets were cracked and water soaked. The window had a "view" of what appeared to be an alley, and even in the morning, these was no apparent natural light visible. The room was equipped with an iron (hanging on the wall!) and small ironing board. But I could not find a convenient place to use the ironing board except on the bed was seemed awkward. There was a very tiny corner shelf (desk?) with a chair that I did not find suitable for working on my laptop with paper files so I used the bed instead, which also was awkward. Basically, I just wanted to get out of this place as soon as possible. Although the room rate was cheaper than prevailing rates at other hotels in the area the night I was in New York, I still did not think my room here was worth the rated charged of $360 (over $415 with state and local taxes). I would not stay here again and would not recommend this hotel.

i didnt even have to go there to see how bad the srvice was. I was calling around for hotel prices and these people were the most rudest people. IF YOU DONT LIKE YOUR JOB QUIT!!

My husband and I generally just look for a clean place to sleep and shower when we stay in the city. The Mayfair provides this in a terrific location just steps away from Time Square and smack in the middle of the Theatre District. The lobby and halls have a bygone era feel with head shots of famous Broadway stars of yesteryear. A very friendly staff answers all questions in a helpful manner. Rooms are teeny, teeny, tiny, bathrooms are good with great water pressure. Everything is clean. Great value.

The Mayfair website shows a picture of a smiling door man greeting you. Ha! No one smiles there and there's no door man. First the good, extremely comfortable kingsize bed and an a/c unit that worked, our room was actually cold. Both are definite pluses. The room was small and really there was not enough room to open up two suitcases. The bathroom mirror had a huge crack from end to end. It looked like the whole thing was ready to fall off the wall. The shower(no tub) door would only open at one end and that was a struggle. The shower tile looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. I put down a towel on the shower floor and left it there the duration of our stay. Almost forgot, the elevator, only one light working and it's filthy. How much effort is it to clean the elevator doors. While waiting for the elevator on the7th floor, we happened to look up the stairs and noticed a tremendous hole in the ceiling. It's a good location, good bed, good a/c. The staff seemed to not care if we were staying there or not, they weren't vey friendly.

I disliked the small and slow elevator. I loved the room, small and quaint and cozy. The bed was wonderful to sleep on. Staff very courteous. Hotel very convenient to everything you want to walk to. Definitely will stay here again when visiting New York.

It reminded us of the hotel in Paris we stayed in. The Good: location - from JFK cost $7 using public transit (5/train & 2/subway which drops you 2 blks from the hotel (take the "E" to the "L7"); convenient to: Broadway, Times Square & subway; Room - small but clean, bath clean, simple decor (you are only sleeping & dressing), most definitely ask for a room with NO Fire Escape and facing the street. The Bad: tried to add $3 add'l tax to PIF reservation per day (we argued and they removed); they DO NOT take Discover Card; bad TV reception; Avoid any rooms with Fire Escape Access especially on 1st & 2nd floor (easy for you to get out in emergency - just as easy for someone off the street to get in unnoticed; Internet not available on all floors or all rooms at time of visit. The Staff: Front Desk staff friendly (man nicer than woman, woman had bit of attitude (originally refused to remove tax and man removed the next day), Maint./Internet young man very friendly and helpful (he is the one that suggested the front facing rooms as being "safer" and which had internet access at the time). The Problems: Restaurant was being remodeled and closed at time of visit (not stated at time of reservation), Internet was being upgraded and therefore not available in 90% of hotel, checked into rm 212 windows did not lock (had fire escape accessible from street - not safe), moved to front facing rm and window was off track (but not accessible from street unless you were spiderman) advised desk and they had it fixed when we came back from sightseeing and both locked; A/C was a bit tricky but once you got the hang of it it was fine (we had to stand on bed & pillows to adjust the temp. and settings w/remote control) because it was placed above the window. All in all, we would stay again, hoping that all the remodeling is finished. We would definitely PIF the reservation to avoid any "surprise" taxes/fees at check out. We only were traveling w/Discover card which they didn't accept so we did not leave a deposit for the phone/movies - we just had them leave them blocked. At the time is was definitely a "quaint" no frills hotel but you aren't there to spend your vacation in a hotel room. Really appreciated the convenience to the sights, shows and the subway. We were there for a Concert in NJ and found it easy to use the subways/trains/buses to get around from the hotels location.
