Van Eden Ranch & Retreat, Idaho Springs

This place could have been nice. However, the owner was drunk, the place was filled with broken down vehicles and trash, the horses are mistreated. We would never go back. The worst thing was the kitchen!! Ugg.

The location is awesome. The food was great. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The owners are very friendly and accomodating. tuck. The owners went out of their way to help us - they prepared dinner and helped us get a van out of the snow. I strongly recommend Van Eden. Elisabeth

I have been to Van Eden and I can say that the prior owners were great and gracious people. The new owner whose husband was killed by his ranch hand whom he went to town for revenge and ended up with the gun he took was the one that killed him. When I was there there were dead horses laying around and the place was very unkempt.It could be a great place but I believe the Flemings just don't have the money to make it a great B&B.

We stayed here for two nights. The road in is bad and when we got there no one was around. It is a beautiful location, but they built a real eyesore on the property. This has got to be the oddest place I have ever stayed. The rooms were pretty clean, but our toilet ran and the sink clogged up - also no hot water most of the time. The rest of the place was filthy, particularily the kitchen. There were lots of strange people that came and went which made me worry about our safety. James was as helpful as he could be, but there were just so many problems. The back door opened onto a "balcony" with no railing and an awful drop if you fell. The whole place smelled odd. I would consider it very unsafe for children and not too safe for adults. The only good thing was the horsebackriding. We will never stay there again.

I wish the place would have been clean. That would have made all the difference. I went to check it out as a place to bring a couple of families and thers is no way my sister in law or wife could handle it being that unclean. Which is really too bad because it could be a awsome place to go. Hope they clean it up!

I have been here several times and always enjoy the scenery and the friendliness of both the staff and the horses. Highly recommend a trip here!

While my husband took the kids exploring the mountain paths I enjoyed a glass of wine on the swing overlooking the mountain tops. This was the most relaxing quaint wonderful family get away that we have ever had. Thanks again to the great staff we will be back again and again.
