Description

Chattanooga's first mayor built this home over a century ago and the stately Victorian structure kept watch over the beautiful downtown Fortwood district for years after the Honorable Mr. Hilborne passed away. However, over the years, the home fell into disrepair. It was being used as offices by an advertising agency when Patty Adams purchased the mansion and restored it to its former glory. Today, the first floor houses a beautiful parlor and elegant sitting room. A ballroom and library are perfect for banquets and conferences, not to mention wedding receptions. Luxurious guest rooms occupy the top three floors. The regal presidential suite has had the distinction of providing rest to many Hollywood stars and high-ranking government officials. A gourmet breakfast is served each day, and the restaurant is open for dinner.

Very sorry I made reservations here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/28/11
Due to a death in my family I was unable to visit Chattanooga and this Inn for my vacation. I know there is a cancellation policy, but would like to see that changed if there are extenuating circumstances. I was charged $408.03 as I chose to attend the funeral of my uncle instead of taking my vacation. I will not be able to go back to Chattanooga until next year for vacation, but I will not choose this place.

Wishing we were there now!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/10
My wife and I received a gift from our son for our anniversary to visit Chattanooga and stay at the Mayor’s Mansion Inn. We were overwhelmed with the gift itself, but taken to a different world when we actually arrived. There are far too many great things to say about the staff and accommodations to write in a small review – but we will try. The property is incredible, extraordinarily maintained and presented to the guests with a staff that makes you feel welcome and very much like family. Elegant, refined and very clean. The food, or should we say cuisine? Forget Starbucks, this B&B has amazing coffee. Breakfast is not to be missed with three courses of indulgence. We highly recommend staying long enough in the morning to enjoy your breakfast, have another cup of coffee, and enjoy the pastries (with another cup of coffee). We have to mention popcorn (a favorite snack of ours) popped just for us with an all-day supply of fresh iced beverages. The popcorn was great but do NOT miss the breakfast. If it weren’t enough to get a great feast of foods, an immaculate and elegant place to spend your time…they throw great service at you, making you feel like you are King and Queen (or vice-versa). You will not want to leave. Our only complaint is that our son didn’t get us an entire month vacation to stay there. Thanks to everyone at the Mayor’s Mansion Inn. We will certainly be back to visit again!

Wanted to move in!
By Nicole Bardell, 7/24/10
It was a wonderful experience!! You are welcomed as you pull in the parking lot, they greet you with brownies and lemonade - Take you for a tour of the historic hotel - then show you to your room. I stayed in the French Cloudland Canyon Suite. It had beautiful high ceilings, comfortable robes in the closet, king size comfortable bed and a large bathroom with whirlpool tub. They have happy hour and will serve you drinks while you enjoy the patio with your wireless internet. A 3 course breakfast served in the morning which was delicious! The staff was always helpful with everything with local attractions, etc. The Mansion is located in an historic district and a close drive to downtown - it is not walking distance to any attractions. There is a college right next door so if you stay on a weekday the streets can be crowded during school hours - students are walking around the streets, etc. There are books, board games and videos for you to enjoy. In the morning they serve complimentary coffee for you to enjoy. They have a turn down service and provide a mint on your pillow. They make sure that every second of your stay is an enjoyable experience. They have a key to the house for you to use if you are out past 10:00pm for extra safety. There is a parking lot to the side of the house and it is well-lit. I would definitly recommend this place to anyone!! It was a great experience overall and I would return again.

The Lap of Luxury in Chattanooga
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/12/06
I initially stayed at the Mayor's Mansion Inn while on business in Chattanooga. A friend who had attended a Christmas wedding at the inn and couldn't stop talking about it! Raving about the food, the service and the setting. So I had to try it for myself. I have been back three times since that first visit, most recently in August. The staff at the inn is always so helpful with recommendations for places to eat and even arranging for a last minute manicure. The inn itself is spectacular, the rooms are large and luxurious with the most incredible beds. My favorite room is on the second floor overlooking Vine Street and has a jetted tub big enough for two.

Bad Business
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/4/06
We recently used this place for our daughter's wedding reception. Although the food and service was good and the house beautiful, once we made the initial and rather large down payment, they went up on their estimates every time we went in to meet with them. From the initial estimate to the final payment, the entire costs doubled. I would not recommend them for such an event as their are equally beautiful places in Chattanooga that offer the same at a much lower cost. Also, the inn itself does not offer any spectacular views or anything very close by to make it worth the amount for a room.

Excellent Place!
By GwenS, 5/29/06
We just stayed at this B&B and had a wonderful time. The staff was very nice, breakfast was great, and the mansion is beautiful! I enjoyed being greeted by Savannah, the dog, upon entering the mansion. We were given chocolate chip cookies, a brief tour, showed to our room, and had all our needs taken care of. The staff provided directions to all the local attractions and eating places which made getting around very easy. The mansion is conveniently located a few minutes from downtown Chattanooga. We would love to stay here again.

A great experience in Chattanooga
By Brian, 5/19/06
The owners and staff were outstanding. The inn is a beautiful old house in the historic Fort Wood district of town. We were just minutes from downtown Chattanooga. The inn was clean, comfortable, and welcoming. We stayed in the Rising Fawn Suite, with king bed and 250 gallon marble soaking tub. The only dislike was the wireless internet service. Very sporadic in the room. We would recommend the Mayor's Mansion for your next trip to Chattanooga.

Premium property meets expectations
By KenM, 8/1/05
We made a last minute reservation for the Rising Fawn Suite. This property was built in the 1890s and has a lot of history. It's a beautiful house located next to the UT-Chattanooga campus. We ate at Tony's in the Bluff View art district. Great wine list by the glass...enjoyed the lasagna. Our accomodations were outstanding. Great room - very large with king bed, fabulous bathroom including a 250-gallon tub. Wonderful property with a great front porch. Gourmet 3-course breakfast. Price was $250 a night (some of the other rooms are less), and met our expectations. Everything was first class.
