Hotel Fundador, Santiago

THE FRONT DESK PERSONEL WAS ARROGANT AN TOTALLY UNCONSERN ABOUT THE "NO HOT WATER PROBLEM IN THE ROOM" FOR 4 CONTINUOUS DAYS, ROOM AND HALLWAYS DIRTY CARPET, THE HOTEL FUNDADOR IS A TWO STAR HOTEL WITH 5 STAR PRICES. ONE THING GOOD IS THE BREAKFAST IN THE MORNING

I'm not used to staying in 5 star hotels but thoroughly enjoyed the experience (someone else had booked me into this hotel). The service was friendly and helpful; the room excellent (perhaps a little dated); the breakfast (included in the tariff) plentiful; and the location ideal. I'd certainly come back here again, although probably only if I can get it at a highly discounted rate. The only negative was that the internet connection did not work in my room (6th floor in Tower B if I recall correctly) and I had to go down to the "bridge" (that connects Towers A and B) on the 4th floor to get a good connection.

Good service in general; lousy internet access. During a 24 hour period, WiFi access to intener in the roome was available for less than 15 minutes. Huge line to the two computers in business center. One of the three comp[uters in business center out of service.

I had a conference down town, so I picked this hotel from the conference list. It turned out perfectly -- great value (helped by being upgraded to a suite), close location, and wonderful service. The service was the key, and here's some examples. I ran into one of the cleaning staff in the elevator, and I asked him where the pool was (by making stroking motions). After reaching the first floor where he was going, he went back up to the 7th floor with me and climbed up to the pool area to show me personally. I also once wanted my room cleaned right away. When the cleaning lady couldn't understand me, she called down to the concierge to get him to translate for me. Overall, very friendly and professional staff willing to go the extra mile. The hotel is right at the University of Chile metro stop. I spent a lot of time shopping and exploring along the Ahumada street mall, but this neighbour hood is also more working class with lots of stray dogs and some reports of violence in the area. One last thing, if you charge your restaurant bill to your room and pay by foreign credit card, they take off the 19% tax, so its a great value.
