James Street Inn is built on the foundation of a c. 1858 stone flour mill. The site is steeped in history dating all the way back to 1671 when Father Jean Claude Allouez built the first permanent mission here. The original foundation and much of the first floor, remnants of the old mill, provide the heart of the new Inn and serve as reminders of the past. Water runs right under the building providing river views for nearly all of the suites, four on the lower level even have decks right over the water! All rooms and suites are decorated in shaker and traditional styles with furnishings by Thomasville. All suites have separate living rooms and bedrooms with a tasteful archway dividing the rooms. Homestyle baths, extra large closets, work areas with data port phones for laptop modem, or personal fax machine use compliment every room & suite. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, the James Street Inn will provide you with quiet, comfortable, unique surroundings. Room tax 13.5% per person per night NOT included in total

Nice Room but......
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/30/08
The James Street Inn offers a nice view of the river. When we stayed there the river was filled with pelicans which was a cool surprise. The room was spacious and clean. The whirlpool looked nice but there was a serious problem....brown sludge came out of the faucet. We tried running the water for some time but this problem never went away. Needless to say my wife and I did not get to soak in the whirlpool. When we informed the manager she said it was probably due to the city "blowing out the pipes". Apparently the James Street Inn shrinks away from taking responsibility for their rooms and their guests' comfort. They discounted our room 20 bucks and that was the end of it....and the end of us ever staying at the James Street Inn.

nice place
By Nancy D, 05/27/05
This is a nice, homey place to stay. We've noticed as we've been going there for a few years, that the rooms are beginning to look a bit run down. If you're going in the spring or summer, try to stay on the bottom floors where you'll have your own deck with the river running underneath. Very cool.

A great family place!

We loved the free wine & cheese and the very "homey" neighborhhod. The rooms were beautiful.
