Not what we were expecting especially for the $$$
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/2/11
We were supposed to be enjoying a romantic night TONIGHT at this place, but instead we are BACK HOME EARLY.
We have wanted to stay at the Friday Harbor House for years and this was the weekend we were going! We left our house to head to Friday Harbor at 6am in the morning, caught the ferry at Anacortes and spent the day driving all around the island while looking forward to our check-in...at 4pm. *excited*......but soon very DISAPPOINTED.
At 3:45pm we finally decided to see if we could check-in 15 minutes early. The receptionist was very pleasant and pointed us towards our room right away. My husband and I were looking forward to staying the night in the room that I booked as the photos were amazing. FALSE ADVERTISING. Our room was supposed to be Queen Harbor View. It was more like Queen BUSHES VIEW. Plus, the jacuzzi tub was supposed to have a view as shown in their photos for the room I booked. NO VIEW. The tub was closed off in the bathroom with no windows. Not what we were expecting....STALE, SOLITARY FEELING. Not romantic at all. Where is the room that has the real Harbor view, with romantic jacuzzi tub with its view that we were shown during online reservation?!!!!
After 30 seconds in the room, we walked right back to the receptionist and pointed out that this room was not what we were shown when I booked online. She offered us a discount in the room, but it still wasn't worth the high price. The only positive thing we can say is the receptionist tried her best to help, but there really wasn't anything that could be done as she said another couple checked in earlier and got the better view and now everything is filled...WAIT A SEC, WHAT WAS THAT?!!! So if we actually broke their rules and tried to check in earlier as we were on the island ALL DAY, early morning, we could have had the room we were expecting to get?! ARGH! I am from now on going to check-in ASAP to other hotels and if any of their receptionists give me issues about checking in too early, I will point out this fine example of why I should now try to check-in earlier than expected.
We just wanted to go home/catch the next ferry out and not waste our money on this room. Our receptionist was very understanding and didn’t give us any hassle about a refund as we were in and out of that room in seconds while looking at photos of what we were supposed to be enjoying. FYI: This was room #11 ….first floor, where their restaurant (The Bluff) is. Maybe the secret to the rooms they show on their websites are on the second and third floors, I’m guessing? If that is the case, they really should think about another category for the 1st floor rooms if they all have the different interior layout and bushes view.
Now that we are back home, still needing to unpack (from not staying anywhere) :o/ ….we are not sure of what to tell my husband’s parent’s about this place as they were interested in booking a couple nights soon but were waiting to hear of what we thought of the place first.
