Best Hotel I've Ever Stayed at in NOLA!
By ,
My girlfriend and I came down to New Orleans from Mississippi for a long weekend for my birthday. I looked at a few hotels before deciding which one would be perfect for us...and I picked this hotel after seeing that they just completed a major renovation. I could not believe how incredibly nice everyone was at the hotel! DO NOT believe what you see on the old reviews of this hotel. Everything is brand new, including the bathrooms and furniture. Our bathroom had a huge marble shower and a great big balcony that looked over the French Quarter. I must say, it felt like a true New Orleans style hotel, and that's exactly what my girlfriend and I were looking for. If you want the best service at the best value, stay at this hotel. We will most certainly return!

Amazing Staff & Beautifully Renovated
By ,
All I can say about Hotel Royal is WOW! After reading some of the older reviews of the property, I was a little hesitant about making our reservation here. However, I took a chance on this place. From the minute we walked in lobby, we were greeted by the bellman and front desk and were checked in right away. They helped us with our luggage and basically waited on us hand and foot. The rooms are GORGEOUS! They just finished renovations apparently and it made all the difference in the world. Our bathroom had marble from top to bottom and a Jacuzzi tub. The beds were super comfortable and we booked the Master Suite with the balcony-- you gotta book that room! Everyone there was so welcoming and kind, and showed us true southern hospitality. We will definitely be staying at Hotel Royal for all of our New Orleans trips to come!

Don't Believe What You See on Their Website
By ,
My family and I planned to go down to N.O. to relax for a couple of days and saw this hotel online. It looked great. When we arrived it was nothing like what we had saw. We attempted to get our money back but they refused to refund the entire amount. We went into the room and it looked horrible. We were supposed to have a balcony upstairs and they put us down stairs right near the street. The parking lot is also was not up to standards. The price was good but a large chain hotel would be a better use of your money.

\"My underwear and medicine were stolen\"
My experience at the Hotel Royal was undoubtedly the worst and most upsetting experience I have had while traveling. My boyfriend and I booked a three day, prepaid stay at the Hotel Royal. During our stay, we had personal items stolen from our room, including an entire bottle of prescription medication and several pairs of my underwear. When we first arrived, the blinds were on the floor, leaving us with no privacy from the room directly across from us. Despite the fact that we spoke with the attendant at the front desk several times, the blinds were never replaced during our stay. In addition, on the last evening of our stay, we arrived back to the room to find no linens on the bed – just a bare, dirty mattress. Because we had prepaid, we had little leverage. Unfortunately, the manager of the Hotel Royal, Susan Smith, was not available when we checked out of the hotel. Over the weeks following our stay, we sent her several emails detailing the events described above. We also left her several voice messages both at the hotel and on her personal cell phone. We never received a response. Clearly, the manager, Susan Smith, has little regard for the comfort or safety of the guests under her care. In short, I strongly recommend that you do not stay at the Hotel Royal. My boyfriend and I travel frequently to New Orleans for business and pleasure, have many friends in the city and have a personal attachment to seeing this great American city return from the ravages of Katrina. The Hotel Royal does this fine city a disservice.

We will return!
By ,
This place was located just far enough to be away from too much noise, and just close enough to find anything in a short walk. While I understand it is an old, old building- there were a few things I wish were fixed. The windows had cracks that let the cold air in- but it wasn't enough to bother us. The room was gorgeous! The bathroom was amazing. Unfortunately the second night we stayed there, our heating went out. With the large spaces in the window, and it being around 20-30 degrees outside, I was very, very upset. There were no rooms equivalent to our size to move to. The option was to downgrade- but I had already paid. There was no management in when we noticed this (having not returned to our room till around 2:00 am) but the girl at the desk offered us a space heater and assured us that the manager would contact us about the unfortunate circumstance. Surprisingly, the small space heater made a huge difference in the room, and I decided not to make a big deal out of the situation. We left the next day, but I never heard from the manager. I then went online to check my balance and found that my card had been credited $100 from them. I was glad to see that our situation was brought to the attention of someone and that they were willing to make the situation less frustrating for me. Had it not been for that one incident, I would have raved about the place. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and understanding. I understand things happen, and I'm willing to give them another chance based on my experience. I highly doubt they will disappoint you. Give them a chance. It really is a beautiful place to stay.

ok for the money
By ,
People at the desk were very helpfull. The room was small and poorly maintained. Housekeeping was lax and almost daily we would have to ask for items that should have been put in the room such as towels etc. Location was not bad being one block from Bourbon. Also the advertized continental breakfast "A muffin" was only served on saturday but hot coffee which was very good was available daily. Don't expect too much and you will be OK with this property. I would stay here again.

Very dirty room
By ,
Likes: friendly woman working the front desk when I checked in, location is hard to beat, bathroom wasn't so bad. Dislikes: disgustingly filthy room, poor fitting sheets + no mattress pad = yuck, no bedside lamp, no internet, nearly fell to my death trying to carry my luggage down 4 flights of narrow poorly lit uneven stairs. I would not return or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Misleading website pics
By ,
Rooms were small and could use a good cleaning. We had several light bulbs that were burnt out. If your room is on the first floor, there is no thermostat in the room.... You'll have to ask the front desk to adjust the temperature. The rooms on this website don't look anything AT ALL like the pictures. Yes, they have a nice quaint lobby, but it goes downhill from there. The Bed was hard and only had a sheet and a light blanket. Only good thing is its only several blocks walking to all the action, but be warned you will be walking down some dark alleys at night in a high crime city.

A Treasure!
By ,
The Rue Royal was the best deal going for the location and the amenities. We had 2 room suite with a kitchen for the price of a HoJo. The owners were so terribly nice and indeed they pride themselves on their towels ("not nappy!") I am happy I don't have to think twice about where to stay in NOLA.

Going back a second time.....
By ,
If you don't mind getting your exercise in with the stairs to get to your room I thought it was a decent place to stay for the money. We first was a little blowed out but you have to keep in mind hey it is New Orleans and that is how alot of the hotels are.We actually thought it was kinda neat how they had the rooms nestled in different areas.Any way we are returning again for 2007 and staying on the bottom floor with no stairs to climb(this time we called and requested a bottom floor room). All in all I would recommend it but it's personal choice you decide are you going for the stay or the experience of New Orleans.....
