Lack of communication, I guess

We reserved a king room for September 29 - October 3, 2011. We checked in, picked-up the key cards, and went to the room. The room was being repaired!!! There was fresh plaster with plastic over it on the wall. The desk clerk offered us another room, which wasn't nearly as nice and with NO discount for the mixup. We got a refund and left to find another hotel. The maintenance staff and the front desk apparently don't communicate at this hotel.
