Five Stars for Past Eight Years
We've been visiting this wonderful Chicago hotel once a year for eight years. It was a real find within easy/safe/friendly walking distance of Wrigleyville with parking less than two blocks away (unless you manage a spot along the residential street where it is located) and the walk back takes you past two grocery stores in the neighborhood for easy shopping, both with gourmet & wine sections. It's located right off Lake Shore Drive in a quiet elegant neighborhood.
Yes, like all grand ladies she has her picadillos but they just add to the pleasure of staying there. I personally wouldn't use the small elevator but I'm claustrophobic. It has the feel of old world Europe and you can enjoy that peace and elegance in the midst of Chicago! We stayed there once during a North Chicago electrical outage and the staff were wonderful in making it pleasant.
Several of the Iowa Cubbie players being brought up for the Big Show stay there, sometimes with family. I've seen several mothers/daughters and their American Girl dolls dressed alike heading out to the nearby American Girl Museum. For a real treat walk towards Lake Shore Drive, head south and take the jogging tunnel over to the lake, head back north and spend some time watching dogs playing in the lake at the Dog Park. Also you can't stop into the Majestic without a walk to the nearby Savin SweetRolls (head East to shopping area and turn south) for a fresh hot cinnamon bun. Driving Lake Shore is always a breeze and a beautiful start to your days adventures in Chicago. The Zoo is nearby for child friendly entertainment also.
Several quaint churches nearby including one beautiful Temple (towards the lake and south a bit). Salvation Army Headquarters are located between Brompton and Wrigley field.
The Majestic is our home in Chicago and we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. Try the weekday rates as they are more affordable and a third night can get you additional discount. Visit once and you'll visit often after that! Enjoy her!
