Description

This Victorian hotel is located halfway between Trinity College and Dublin Castle. The exciting Temple Bar area is not far away and St Stephen's Green is within walking distance. Although over a century old, the hotel has recently been renovated and refurbished. The Victorian feel has not been lost although contemporary Irish art now hangs on the walls; a wonderful 'old meets new' feel has been created. The Library Bar is particularly beautiful with wood-paneling, bookshelves and log fires that lend a delightfully cozy atmosphere.

Great location, but questionable accomodations
The location is great - head one way and you're in Temple Bar, head the other and you're off to Grafton Street. It was very convenient since we walked everywhere. The concierge (Wayne) was incredibly nice. The included breakfast was fantastic - cereal and toast or you could have a full Irish breakfast. By filling up in the morning, we were able to save money by skipping lunch. Key problems, a room advertised as a triple is actually 1 double bed and one twin, not 3 seperate beds. This is better suited to a family than three friends traveling together. My friends and I stayed there in Feb. '05 and had significant problems with the shower. There was NO cold water running to the shower and everyday was a challenge to get cleaned up without 2nd degree burns. The room was always too hot and we had to sleep with the windows open - this was a major problem because we were above the alley and garbage and bottle pick-up starts at 6AM. Also, as with many hotels in Dublin, it sits above a night club that is open until the wee hours. Our room was directly above it. I think a room on the other side of the hotel would have alleviated the problem with noise. In the end the manager did take some Euros off the nightly rate as compensation.

Great location, exellent service!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/04
I have recently returned from a stay at this hotel and wanted to tell everyone that there is no better location than Central, literally steps from Grafton Street and a short walk to Temple Bar , Trinity College, O' Connell Street.
I found all the staff to be very friendly and the room very comfortable.
All in all, fantastic value for money and I would certainly recommend it and stay there again.
