Camelot Inn, Elk Rapids

Don't expect much from this motel and you still might be disappointed. The rooms are over priced outdated and dirty, and the service is consistent with the rooms.

From the photos on the website, we expected an older but charming place to stay on a busy summer weekend. We were sadly disappointed. Yes, the room was clean, and the owner very helpful and friendly. However, serious updating is needed as far as decor, fixtures, mattresses etc. The carpet was new, but bathrooms need to be gutted and redone. The price was way too high for the quality.

Filthy carpet, shower basically unuseable. Owner charged my credit card (without my permission) for a cigarette burn in a comforter we didn't even use. There were multiple cigarette burns in the carpet next to the bed when we checked in. Besides its convenient location to Traverse City and Elk Rapids marina, this place is overpriced and overdue for some renovations- at the very least carpet that can be walked on without turning the bottoms of your feet black.

Not a bad place, but certainly not memorable. Owner was very nice. Stayed in room 12. No bathtub in room, just shower. Shower was moldy/mildewy and hot water was just hot enough to shower with...never needed to turn on the cold. Room was clean, but severely overpowered by room freshener. Fixtures incredibly out of date ( beds, lights, AC, carpet etc.) Cinderblock walls didn't add to the decor...felt like I was stepping into a hotel from the 70s. This room fulfilled our need for a place to sleep for the evening but little else. More suited to a 50 to 60 dollar room than the 140 we paid. With updates, could be charming, but until then I won't be back, nor will I recommend this place to others.

Given the extremely low rate in the off season, we were surprised to find our room cozy, warm, clean, and charming. The room was small and contained a tv, microwave, and mini-fridge. The sheets and towels were clean, and that's all we had really hoped for on this venture. I would definitely stay there again. IF, however, you are use to a little more than a warm, clean bed, your taste might not be well suited for this kind of experience, as it's not the Ritz.
