Kind of a beat-up, low budget place. Owner seemed more interested in skiing the last snow in Silverton than running a motel. Water in bath was yellowish. Could be a nice place with a little more attention.
Reserved 2 rooms for 7 of us. When we arrived, owner had assigned us to a smaller room (claimed that's what we'd reserved until I pointed to the handwritten change on his reservation sheet) ... then informed us that the smaller room cost just as much! I took it, since we couldn't get anything else for 100 miles around at that point. I'm sure he shifted us when someone else wanted our reserved room - then lied to us and gouged us over it. I will never stay there again, and I will tell our story everywhere I can. PLEASE do not support this person!
Note - an earlier review on this site mentions Sheila and describes her as a wonderful proprietress. She no longer is the owner; the new (40ish male) owner has apparently had it for around a year.
As for the rooms? The rates are relatively low for Ouray, and it's about what you'd expect. Adequate, though the AC didn't work in one of our rooms, so be warned if you're staying in summer and that's crucial. But please don't support dishonesty!
We rolled in on labor day about 4pm with no clue. Figured we were out of luck considering the holiday. But thanks to Bruce he had one room . Said if we were willing to give him an hour or so to get the room cleaned it was ours. Recommended Outlaw restaurant while we waited. It was great. When we got to our room it was exceptionally clean and just right. A little nostalgic but perfect for us. Who needs the big chain hotels? If you are into local smal business, being flexible this is a good bargain. We will be back. Thanks Bruce for your effort.
This is a good motel with great owners! Over the years, we've stayed in many different hotels in the area. Since we've found Antlers Motel and gotten to know Sheila (the owner), we prefer to stay here over any other place in town. You can't beat the charm and value of Antlers Motel! It may not be as fancy as other places, but the renovations are nice, the rooms are always clean, and it’s located near some of the finer restaurants in Ouray. And, depending on what room you get, you can have great views of the firecrackers during special events. Don't overlook this great find!
The place had a retro and hip feel to it. The rooms were clean and neat and the staff was helpful with restaurant suggestions and knew the fun activities where the locals go. It was also right in the center of town, walking distance to everything. The soak in the city hot springs pool was the perfect way to relax at the end of the day.
Just returned from a Colorado touring trip which included a 2 night stay in Ouray. This hotel has a perfect location for a morning hike to Box Canyon Falls and near lots of restaurants. The owner is so friendly and has lots of tips for the area. This was a quite hotel, and has air conditioning which was a plus in the hotter weather. There are other hotels in the area for much more money which do not have air, so be aware of that if you chose to pay more to stay in a different hotel. My husband and I will definetly stay at this hotel again when we return. If you are looking for a clean, quite room with a super friendly owner.....stay here!
