A big disapointment
By omarsix, 11/16/09
We just came back from Hotel Ancón. We decided to go after reading very good reviews in Yahoo Travel. This hotel is located in a beautiful peninsula facing the Caribean Sea in south-central Cuba. The nearby city of Trinidad is wonderful too. The hotel per se is ok, but the attitude of the staff is far from friendly. Nobody pays attention to the guests, they steal food in from of your eyes, sometimes taking the last pieces of anything left in the trays. The service is non existent, the employees spend their time yelling at each other. There is no bottled drinking water widely available. All members of our family of four became stomach sick after 2 days there. The food at the buffet is disgusting to say the least. Even when we were in a all-inclusive plan, we had to go to Trinidad to eat decently. The pool service is suppose to close al 7 p.m., but the pool guy verbally assaulted us after we refuse to get out at 6 p.m. Next day he close the pool at 5 p.m. One of our rooms heavily smelled like mold and nobody pay attention to it despite our complains. This was the worst vacation ever. The beach and surrounding montains are beautyful instead and there is a hotel Brisas Trinidad del Mar that seems to be in better conditions.

Loved it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/23/06
For the price we payed we got way more. Everything is just perfect. It's 12 km away from Trinidad which you have to visit. The people i met there were just fantastic especially the entertainment staff! So if you go there could you do me a favor?? Please tell them (Arlen, Yuni and Fabian :D) that Justina ( or tina miss ancon hehe) says HI I MISS YOU GUYS!! thanks i really recommend this hotel. But do bring some mosquito repellent. The service is nice, but some days it's slow but if you tip the waiter and bartenders you'll get faster service. The rooms are really nice but i heard it's better to ask for a good room, apparently there are some old rooms. The location is nice, i recommend you go snorkling to see the fish. In Trinidad there is a disco in a cave. Ask the Animation staff they will take you there :D.

Unspoiled

This hotel is directly on a lovely white sand beach. 20 minutes from a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Staff are eager to please and the Olaya Restaurant will cook to your liking.

I'd go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/05
Nice stretch of beach. good buffet (the fresh orange juice machine was my favourite.) Being so close to Trinidad is a bonus ($8-$9 CUC cab ride). Some great history, very old buildings, stone streets. Lots of spots to have lobster dinners in Cuban homes, you won't be disappointed. (anywhere from $8-15). However internet connection is a rip off, $8/hr. compared to $6 anywhere else.

Sever Danger of overeating

Excellent beach. Food and drinks all inclusive, staff friendly. Rooms clean and comfortable. Internet access expensive @ 8 convertible pesos minimum charge (makes checking your e-mail expensive)
