nice place to open a resturaunt
Cabin was nice.Food was basically low grade Denny's at four times the price.Forty minute wait to be seated;forty minute wait for our entrees. Our server bought us all dessert...apparently this was the norm. Found a nice deli inside the park;much higher quality at 1/4 the price, without the wait.Ifanyone decides to open a real resturaunt here they would make a bundle.

O.K. not so O.K.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/1/08
Our cabin was nice,no T.V.,but that wasn't a big deal.Staff was freindly and helpful, location was excellent. The only problem we encountered was the dining room.Long wait to be seated,(almost an hour),with few customers, food was poor quality,(comparable to a low grade Denny's,without the speed of service and at four times the price).Waiter apologized,(seems this was a common occurence),and treated my daughter to dessert.Only part of the meal that arrived in a timely fasion.

Dirty Fire Trap
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/08
We made reservations for 2 nights per the web site pictures. Reserved a one bed cabin as it was all that was available. We looked forward to the rustic nature since we are campers and enjoy the outdoors. There was a gap in the door wide enough to accomodate snakes, mice, insects. Still we were ok with that. The flooring was cracked and worn with 3 different patterns adorning the small sized floor. The room was so small, my husband banged his leg on the bed post every time he tried to walk through the room. No heat in the bathroom: when you closed the bathroom door the heat source stopped. They had soap dispenser in the shower that didn't work. But two things made us cancel our second night: 1) the dusty dirties. I wore socks inside the cabin when I saw the floor. I went to bed but hit the bathroom one more time. When I got back in bed I noticed I had left dust bunnies from my socks in the bed. One was 5 inches across. My socks were covered in hair, dirt, and dust. We sneezed and coughed the entire next day. 2) The number one reason was the sign by the heater that said not to put any articles within 3 feet of the gas heater. The upholstered chair in the room was pushed snug against the heater with the bed against that so that my head was within 3 feet of the gas heater. The thermostat wire was draped across the head of the bed and my husbands pillow kept getting stuck on it. Then there was the complimentary coffee pot on a table within 3 feet of the gas heater. The only plug of course was on the other side of the heater so that one had to drape the cord over the gas heater to run the coffee pot. What a waste. It was ghetto to say the least. The dinner food was of poor quality and we had to wait over an hour to be seated because "cook was backed up". Positives: the staff was friendly, I suppose with all the negatives, they didn't have a choice but to to be friendly. The waiter in the dining room was nice, but the food took what seemed forever and was not good. They refunded our money for the second night. After seeing and staying in the room, we were glad to get away alive and no sicker than we were.

LOVED the place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/4/08
My family and I stayed at the Kaibab Lodge to celebrate the graduation of our two youngest children from graduate school. We had spent the earlier part of the week at the south rim of the Canyon, which we enjoyed a lot. But by far, our best experience was staying there and enjoying the north rim. We found the staff to be pleasant and very helpful. We loved the food and had several meals there. Our accommodations were great and we would not hesitate to go back there again.

What happened to the Food?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/17/08
Stayed last year in one of the older cabins;which left alot to be desired. The food at the lodge was wonderful though...some of the best of our entire vacation. This year we stayed in one of the newer duplexes and it was very pleasant;the dinner at the lodge however...it would be comical except we had to eat and pay for it!Just what the heck is a French Onion Bisque?Yuck.Better off with a frozen burrito from across the hiway;I'm serious.

Bad place to stay.
By Peggy, 7/29/08
This lodge is very run down and dirty. We made reservations site unseen except for the beautiful pictures you will see on the website. They wanted to put us in a storage shed size cabin, with no porch, no shade and no forest or trees. There was dirt on the floors and a cockroach on the wall to welcome us. For the money, we moved on down the road to the Grand Canyon Lodge and had a beautiful cabin with great customer service and it is right on the North Rim. Do not let them tell you at the Kaibab Lodge that is no place else to stay. No, we don't recommend it to anyone.

Grand kids loved it.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/1/08
If you like the South Rim, stay away. This has a rustic charm all it's own. This is my third trip in 6 years and my grandkids second trip in 3 years. The staff was as good as it gets. Attentive, efficient and friendly. The food was great and there was plenty of it. The older cabins that face the beautiful meadow are comfortable and cozy, but small. We did not spend much time in the cabins, but sat outside enjoying the view or out hiking somewhere in the beautiful Kaibab forest which surrounds the cabins. This is the second trip where my children and granchildren closed the main lodge at 10:00 p.m. every night, playing table games, doing puzzles and enjoying being a family. There are no distractions of huge crowds. This lovely setting sits a quarter mile off the only road into the North Rim and there is nothing else around for 18 miles except a gsa station/mini store. There are no TV's or phones in the cabins, and no pool. HOORAY!! The stars are so bright at night, you can almost pick them out of the sky.Bring a sweatshirt or better yet, buy one in the lodge. It gets cold at night. My three daughters and 7 grandchildren are already talking about when they can go back.

Close to the Canyon and they take pets!
By American, 7/14/07
Kaibab Lodge is just a few miles from the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park - the North Rim. It's rustic. We had a small dog and had to go into one of the older duplex cabins. Contrary to some of the scathing reports about Kaibab Lodge on some other web sites, we found our cabin to be clean and comfortable. The walls were just recently painted white and the bathroom had a new floor. The beds were very comfortble. The bathroom sink was separate from the toilet and shower facilities, which were compact but functional. The two double beds were in the small entrance room with a large window which look out onto a huge field. We put four suitcases, an ice chest, and a large food container in the room and still had room to manuver around. We were there in July. The days were warm. There is heat, but no a/c. No problem, being at 8700 feet the nights cooled down to 45 degrees and sleeping with the window open was very pleasant. The lodge has a gift shop and restaurant. There is a gas station with a small grocery across the highway from the lodge. Prices there were not bad - $1.80 for a big bag of ice and $3.31 for a gallon of gas. We went to all the scenic points the park road in the park had to offer. The Bright Angel Point Trail starting by the park's visitor center is a must do. The quarter mile paved trail sits atop a narrow ledge with steep drop offs to the left of you and to the right of you with absolutely spectatular views. I've been to both the south and north rims and I have to rate these views the best in the park, especially at sunset. Since we had our small dog with us we had to take turns walking the short trail, because dogs are not aloud on the trail. You'll know why when you see the trail - it's narrow and harrowing in places, but there are hand rails where necessary. Back to the Kaibab Lodge. It's rustic, the people are very friendly and helpful, the room we stayed in was clean and comfortable, and our little Sandy doggie was welcomed with open paws. But you must clean up after your pet poops or it's a $75 fine.
