Overpriced, foriegn workers, stolen camera
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/09
Dirty overpriced and bad service. Most of the workers are foreign brought in by an agency to work at the Wilderness and to work there for the summer. Most we encounter could barely speak english. I'm sure they get paid minumum wage but in their counties minimum wage here is being rich there. Most of the pools were filthy with bandaids and debris in the water. All the waterparks close at 7pm so you have nothing to do once they close. They have an arcade to drain your wallet. You can play in the kid playland. When we were they none of the air cannons worked. Someone stole our camera while at the Wildwest Indoor Waterpark. Still waiting to here back for the lost and found manager about it. It amazes me how some people can't look past the fancy decor and really be honest about the reviews they write. I don't mind paying good money for something if I get what I pay for. They only ones benefiting from the Wilderness are the owners sitting on piles of money by putting out an inferior product.

Amazing vacation!!!! heres the drawbacks...
By Marissa, 06/19/09
My family (15 people total, 8 adults and 7 children... ages- 13,12,9,8,8,6,7,4) stayed in a 4 bedroom frontier condo. You would think there wouldnt be enough room... but YES there was plenty of room because there were 4 families and there were 4 bedrooms so it worked out perfectly! Check in time is around 4:00 PM, we got there at around 2 PM and our room was ready which suprised us because we've been there numerous times before and we were never allowed to check in before 4. Now for the waterparks... well... before our vacation, i looked on the website wildernessresort.com to see if anything new would be happening. Quite a few things, including Bumper Boats "Ready For The Summer!". Apparently NOT!!!! The Wild West Indoor waterpark was closed for construction and so was a few outdoor waterparks as well. So we decided to go to the Klondike Kavern "A 'Gold Rush' of a time!" You better believe it was a gold rush! It was super crowded because of the waterpark that were closed down for renovation , and Klondike was one of the only waterparks opened that day! Fortunately, the next day all the waterparks re-opened which was a plus. Dont get me wrong, the waterparks really are amazing! They are very nice to relax in and the kids really do enjoy them! We checked out the "Wild Abyss" 3D mini golf which has live sharks and a Sting Ray observation tank. But when we came to the observation tank, we were not allowed to touch the sting rays (which by the way, the website said you could). Lazer Tag was very fun. Food, yes, its over-priced, but name a water resort restaurant that isnt! Werent you expecting that? Thats why you are supposed to bring food to your condo/cabin while on your vacation. Overall, this is thee best water resort we have ever been to!

We had a blast
By Lori, 06/17/09
We took our 9 year old grandson here on vacation to celebrate school being out and he had a smile on his face from the moment we got there. Waterparks were very fun he loved the ball play set and 3D mini golf. There was some noise at night, but what do you expect with 100's of excited kids trying to go to bed? The room was nice - only complaint was the fitted sheets kept sliding off and in the morning we woke up on the bare mattress - kind of disturbing. I would recommend to any family that loves water. Staff was helpful and the life guards kept everyone in line for safety sake. We will go back!

A Lot of Fun for The Whole Family!
By Sal Auriemma, 03/31/09
Our family spent 6 nights at the Wilderness (specifically the Glacier Canyon Lodge) the last week of August 2008. Everything worked out perfectly and we saved a little money that week as well. We booked a 2 Bdrm deluxe condo. The room was clean and spacious for our family of five. The kitchen was nicely stocked with cups, dishes, cookware and utensils. The bedrooms were comfortable and the living room was clean and modern. We received a room that overlooked the rear of the property, which gave us a serene view of the forest preserve, horse trails and a nice large barbecue area for guests to use. The grounds were very well maintained and clean. Although it was busy, it was not overcrowded. All of the indoor and outdoor pools were open during our entire stay. We cooked all of our meals, except breakfast, in our room. The local Wal-Mart is about 10 minutes away, so it was easy to stock up on food and adult beverages. For breakfast we did the buffet at the Wild Canyon Cafe. The pricing was as expected for a resort and the food was typical of any decent buffet style restaurant. We all enjoyed it and the kids were happy with all of the choices. As far as all the walking between the different water parks that some have complained about, we didn't find it to be a problem. We were in building two of the GC Lodge which is two buildings away from the skywalk leading to the main resort area. Everything is clearly marked and signs directed you on where to go. We actually enjoyed the walking. All of the pool areas were within ten minutes one way or the other, plus we got to explore parts of the resort we wouldn't have otherwise. We ended up finding a pottery painting store called Polka-Dot-Pots in the New Frontier section of the resort, which the kids loved. They painted their pottery, which then went into a kiln overnight to be baked, and then it was ready the next day for pick up. It was good to spend the family time being creative with the kids, something they will remember. Dodge 'Em City, a huge multi-level dry indoor play area, located in the Wild West section of the Wilderness was a big hit with the kids. Unlike the new Theme Park at the Kalahari, which charges guests extra, Dodge 'Em City is free to Wilderness Resort's guests. Out of all the pools our favorite indoor pool was the Wild Water Dome and our favorite outdoor pool was the Lost World Water Park, which has the neatest lazy river I have ever seen; it is huge with multi-levels. All of the pool areas were kept at comfortable temperatures, although the indoor pools were humid at times, and provided people of all ages a large variety of things to do and rides to go on. I actually like the way the Wilderness has everything spread out a little. It gave us something different to look forward to each day. This was our first stay in the Dells, so we were torn on what resort to book. After looking at the most popular resorts we finally narrowed our choices down to two, the Kalahari and the Wilderness Glacier Canyon Lodge. After spending the week in the Dells we were extremely happy with our choice. We did take the time to visit the Kalahari, which was a short trip just down the road. It was a nice facility, but laid out tightly and seemed more confined as compared to the Wilderness Properties. The other thing we didn't like about the Kalahari is that it sat right along the highway and had this industrial feel about it. There was no view other than buildings and traffic racing by on the highway. The Glacier Canyon and the Wilderness property felt a little more open and surrounded by nature. The Sundara Spa was gorgeous and relaxing, a bit expensive, but well worth it. I was completely relaxed after my four hour session. I didn't want to leave. They provided a free town car to pick you up and drop you off between locations, which was a plus. We are looking forward to returning to the Wilderness again this August!

Only OK
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/20/09
I liked how it was so spacious and cleaned. However I did not like how we paid so much for the place but we had to check out by 11am. That is nonsense! Therefore, it was not worth our money.

theiving housekeepers!! un-helpful staff!
By rjay, 03/20/09
we stayed in the 2 bedroom condo in late february for 6 days. during our stay a very nice camera was stolen from the dresser drawer. it was in the drawer due to dead batteries. we told the front desk about this and they told us they would get back to us as soon as they spoke with the housekeepers. nothing. when we got home i called 2 more times and both times they said they would call me back and never did. we have to except our loss, but more frustrating than that is the fact that they dont care. they even make you sign a paper saying they are not responsible in any way for lost or stolen items....even by their own housekeeping. i guess that should've shined a red light, but unfortunately we learned the hard way. they dont offer safes either. this place is beautiful, comfortable, and a lot of fun, but not worth all the thefts ive been reading about. be careful if you decide to stay here and leave nothing out for the horrible theiving housekeepers to get for free!! (of course not all housekeepers here are theives, but dont take the chance).

This will be our last visit! Laptop was stolen :(
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/24/09
Our family will not be visiting the Wilderness again. This was our 5th trip since 2006. We stayed in a Frontier Condo. We checked out on Sunday at about 10:30 and went to the waterparks to enjoy our last few hours together. One group decided it was time to go and when they got in their car they remembered they left their laptop in the condo. They went to the front desk and security went to the condo which had already been cleaned. The laptop was not on the couch where it was last seen. The cleaning supervisor and the 2 person crew were questioned but they claim they do not remember finding a laptop. There is no doubt this is theft on the part of the cleaning crew. A police report was filed but as of today (1 day later) there has been no laptop sighting. There is not much more that can be said about this incident. We just wanted to share this with others so they can make their own decision about the integrity of Wilderness employees.

1,000 acre property on a 500-acre footprint
By Tim, 02/23/09
First impression: There are no sidewalks, so you and youngsters will jockey for position amongst Hummers, Tahoes and other SUVs patrolling the parking lot as you attempt to navigate your way to the front entrance. Entering the hotel complex is akin to an airport check-in line, with order maintained by vinyl rope systems to keep the 30 or so people waiting in line from becoming unruly. As I was waiting to check in, a shirtless, beer-bellied 50-something man in cowboy boots (YES, shirtless w/cowboy boots) leered at my wife. He conspicuously lowered his glasses for a better look. What a shmuck, but we were amused nonetheless. Klondike Kavern, one of three indoor water parks, feels like a shopping mall food court on the day after Thanksgiving. An impossible amount of people crammed into a tight space intended for half as many. My primary observation about this property is they had a limited footprint and tried to retro-fit every attraction they could think of into a space that is simply not big enough. The staff does a pretty good job with the basics. Service was uneven at times but competent. Property appeared to be well-kept. Just too much late night/early morning noise generated by too many people crammed too close together. If you enjoy the large crowds and long lines at Wal Mart on the first Saturday of the Christmas Shopping season, you will love the Wilderness experience. You will not, however, receive "Wal Mart pricing" on anything associated with your stay. You might consider paying more for a Wilderness private cabin. If you elect to stay in a basic hotel room, you've been forewarned. Tim Wausau
