roach carcass in blanket--enough said
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/05
My friend and I found a roach carcass smooshed into the blanket when we stayed in this hotel on August 3, 2005. After we asked that the bedclothes be changed, they failed to do so! Thus late at night, when we returned after dinner to find the bed untouched and the roach still there, we decided to seek a room elsewhere. Braving the dark parking lot and drunken Econo Lodge patrons' insulting remarks, we made our way to the front desk for the second time. The general manager first told us he had changed the bed. When we assured him the roach remained and the bed was untouched, he changed his story, stating he was unable to enter the room and thus could not change the bed. We told him we wanted a refund. He then informed us that we had already "used" the room in that we had used the bathroom, and we could not obtain a refund.
I am still attempting to obtain a refund from Econo Lodge, as we were forced to pay for two hotels for the same night. What a great way to spend vacation! Choicehotels, the umbrella customer relations organization used by Econo Lodge and some other hotels, is not very knowledgeable or helpful in obtaining a refund, either. It seems Econo Lodge and Choice Hotels care little about their individual guests' experiences. Thus the chain name means nothing. I would strongly urge you to NOT stay in this particular Beaufort Econo Lodge. Atlantic Inn, right next door, was $20 cheaper and roach free! In addition, I urge you to join me in staying away from Econo Lodge's in general, and any so-called "Choice Hotel." If you have a problem experience with an individual hotel, you will face delay, lack of knowledge, and silence from Choice Hotels, like me.
If you don't follow this advice and stay away completely, I suggest that you pull down the bed covers BEFORE flushing the toilet, so that you can obtain a refund should you opt not to cuddle up with a roach carcass that night.
