This is excellent accommodation aimed largely at North American families. The hotel is a good place to bring children, as those under age eight stay free. Here, you can stay in a room with a private bathroom for a very reasonable price, or a shared bathroom for even less. The hotel, which was built in the 1930s, retains a family-style atmosphere. Enjoy the garden cafe and many other amenities. The staff speaks English, French and German, as well as Spanish.
I was on a rather tight budget, and wasn't expecting much for $28 per night, but I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is made up of several houses that are linked together with boardwalks and cut up into rooms. It was quiet and comfortable and a free breakfast that is out of this world with eggs made to order, breads, meats and all the wonderful fruit Costa Rica has to offer. It was easy to ask the front desk to call for a taxi that would take you anywhere in town for $2. I had a great time, met some friendly people and would go back anytime.
This charming B&B was exactly what I was looking for in the big city - a very homey experience. There was not a lot to do in the immediate neighborhood, but the rooms, staff, food, and service were wonderful and most helpful in planning the rest of our travels. The price cannot be beat!
Hotel Aranjuez was quite a bargain. They provided free internet, phone calls (within Costa Rica), television, and a delicious breakfast buffet for 25 $ a night. My boyfriend and I fondly recalled their breakfast buffet (made to order omelettes, fresh fruits and breads, juice, gallo pinto, cheeses, etc.) multiple times during our trip. The hotel is located within 10 minutes walking of downtown San Jose and is in a charming neigborhood. The hotel had no bugs in the room and seemed quite clean overall. I would definitely stay here again.
